HTC One M8 Phunk Studio Edition

OK, folks. This is going to be fun. Because not only do we have one of the 64 only living copies of the HTC One M8 Phunk Studio Edition — we've got copy No. 1. Numero Uno. The very first one.

And one of you is going to win it next week, on the 200th episode of the Android Central Podcast.

Pique your interest? Read on.

Here's the plan: Since this is a specially designed edition of the HTC One M8, we want to see your design skills, too. Download this image of the HTC One M8.

HTC One M8

Then design the hell out of it. Use Photoshop, use a pen or pencil — hell, use Markers (the app, or the drawing tool, we suppose) if you must. Then post your entry in this forum thread.

We'll take entries through 5 p.m. EDT next Wednesday, Aug. 27. The next morning (that's Thursday, Aug. 28), we'll put our 10 favorite entries up to a vote and let you fine folks decide. We'll announce the winner live on Aug. 29 during episode 200 of the Greatest Android Podcast in the World.

Now, a little more fine print:

  • This contest is open to anyone and everyone of legal drawing (and contest) age worldwide. (We're not going to yell "INTERNATIONAL CONTEST" because it's not like we're shipping to Mars or anything. We're all one big happy global family here.)
  • That said, this is a European model HTC One M8, so LTE bands won't match up 1:1 here in the U.S. Just so's ya know.
  • Just one entry per person, please. And we'll know if you're trying to fudge that.

And with that, good luck!

I'll use the stylus on my shiny new Nvidia Shield tablet.

I will draw the greatest stick figure in all the land.

Hey but since you love Samsung so much, you're going to give it your best buddy Ryan when you win right? Aww thanks NoNexus you're the best!

So the design in the first image above is what you could win? Sweet... I can potentially have a phone to match all my Ed Hardy Shirts.

I didn't get it at first quick glance... then I really looked at the word... then I laughed. +1

Good phrase. Even my stick figures look like they are melting and deformed.

I'm guessing this phone won't work at all on Verizon?

Exactly what I was thinking.

Then I thought, if I won it I'd sell it anyway. Huge bezels and overrated speakers just don't do it for me.

Last time i saw an article about this phone everyone went berserk and bashed the looks big time..

Here in AC you can get one for free and everyone wants 1 haha...

Anyway I won't participate in such an unfair contest.

Good luck

Damn Phil, this contest is going to be something else. Great job, I'm psyched!

Not just me. Checked out last week's article and most people who commented thought it was not attractive.

Hideous? The M8? I've seen and heard it called a lot of things but not hideous. It's easily the nicest phone inside and out that's available right now, in my opinion. My wife has always had galaxies, and I've had the G3 and several HTC phones including the M8. I went with the G3 and skipped the M8 at first because it was reported to be so long and da bezels were just too much to bare but after dealing with the G3 I switched to the M8 and am SO much more happy. It is long but once I heard the sound that comes out of it, it really didn't matter. It's super solid and runs better than any phone I've ever handled. Just my two cents.

I have a gunmetal HTC One m8 and I think it's the best built and most attractive smartphone around. I think what they did with the one in this article is hideous. It looks like they scratched the heck out of the back and ruined a perfectly beautiful and elegant design.

I think you can do whatever you want. Pretty sure it has to be original though. No plagiarism.

It is a shame this contest is unfair. I am not opposed to trying hard to win something, but even with a month of drawing, I could not make something that passes the laugh test. Artistically challenged, I am.

Who would have thought pumping all of my time into reading, writing, math, and the law would boot me out of an Android Central contest?

Good luck to the artists out there...

To be fair we should all be good at those things. Even a basic understanding of law is important.

Awwww... Plagiarism is not my thing. I have a moral compass and take pride in my work.

Cool. Hopeful that you can win it, and we can see good work! I'm still thinking of something....besides vzw logos of course /s

Dude I was totally thinking of putting a million vzw logos on a that picture and submitting

Well I can't draw that well soooooo gonna have to put my Thinking cap on and attempt some creativity.

Well, I had the idea and was scrolling through the comments and then read yours. Technically, I didn't steal it because I had the same thought..

One last comment, are we just designing the back of the phone like the one shown in the article?

To be fair, replacing the imagery on the screen should be prohibited/should be a blacked out screen for all, otherwise super chumps are going to give the screen display imagery a ridiculous workout, and this contest is meant to be about editing the phone body only.
