It's a special Cinco de Mayo podcast! By which we mean we're recording on May 5th.

First up — we check in on a number of excellent voicemail questions, including what's up with Android Auto these days, more on adoptable storage back backing up your data, and whether the Nexus 9 should best be forgotten at this point.

Plus we dive into the latest scary (or not) story about Google, Android and hacking, and catch up on the latest in Chromebooks.

Android Central 286: Culturally insensitive taco

Yes, live participation factor. I have not see a video production in 5 or 6 weeks now. Which means I have not participated in any podcast. Sorry if I can not see I do not care to hear it.

Me too, I don't want to listen. Every week I check and if the podcast isn't on YouTube as a video. I just don't bother.

We want video!!! :( It's great hearing you guys, but seeing is believing. Plus you guys make things fun, faces and all. :( Audio-only is not bad, but video needs to come back please :)

If you have something interesting to say and can make things enjoyable like the AC team did with their video podcasts, yeah.

If, and when, you do bring back video podcasts, can you post an audio podcast as well? I prefer listening to it while I'm driving around.

So I guess you guys don't care about video any more or does someone just look like crap right now and we are waiting????

Posted from my Nexus 6/Nexus 7 2013/Surface Pro 3

They always look like crap, which is why everyone wants to "watch". They won't really step and say why they aren't doing videos anymore. So it is up to us to create reasons.

Guess I'm just not an audio podcast guy.
Reminds me too much of talk radio. But with goofy background music. With video, it was like a TV show...
On the up side, I just found 4 -5 hours each month.

Damn sick and tired of the Audio crap. First iMore with its excuses now AC. If this is how you're going to do it from now on count me out. I can listen to Sirius in the car and get my news from All About Android on Tuesdays on TWiT. A lot better than starring at lloyd. Get your act together AC!

Audio only is fine with me as I only listen while on the go anyway. But Phil, sort your mic out please pal.

I'm confused. Why build up a following for the weekly video show just to dump it out of the blue?

Posted via the Android Central App

Hey, everybody. Thanks for the input on the video. Nobody's underestimating the live participation factor. (Or taking it for granted. I love it, too!) And nobody's given up on video. Like I said, we're taking a little break from it to focus on the audio for now. Maybe it'll come back some day. (Being on the road certainly makes it more difficult.)

But for now, I thank you for listening, and hope the folks determined to leave over this don't stay gone too long.

See y'all next week! :)

Lots of complaints over something I wouldn't even qualify as a first world problem. I still love you guys.

Also, Jerry liking the way the G5 feels doesn't make him crazy. Different yes, but crazy is overstating things a bit. Even jokingly.

Ugggh damn it Phil fine I'll stay...

But seriously didn't like that "some day" part we all know how long it took for voicemails to come back.....

I unfortunately don't know of any other android sites that are run by people my age. I reckon i will get my podcast 'fix' from that arrogant, and womanizing, ****** bag named Leo Laporte. Unless someone can point me in the direction of one with peeps 40+, that is also entertaining.
But yeah... it really sicks that y'all have put video on the back burner. Even worse... you make no guarantees of it coming back. :( My bookmarks bar is full and having to add another one in for a weekly podcast sucks. Thanks for being transparent and letting us know. That carries weight.

Not really that transparent...

Just a big "we will bring it back when we damn well please, screw you"

Posted from my Nexus 6/Nexus 7 2013/Surface Pro 3

I understand the on the road part making it more difficult, but there is another reason, you just won't say. Listening makes it to passive. Interestingly enough, other Android/Phone sites are doing more and more video shows now. I won't say goodbye to AC, but it certainly has reduced my involvement with the site, as Tech Video's are my entertainment. It is a shame, you guys do great shows on video.

Not listening to your fan base is a recipe for failure. Don't be another site that ignores and fades away.

Never Mind! I was going to say I couldn't find the Android Central Podcast through the search feature in Google Play Music but now I see it. Either they fixed something or I learned how to scroll to the bottom of the search results. Thanks for the podcast; I will use it to test the Google Play Music podcasts feature.

I usually listen to podcasts in the car, so no video doesn't effect me too much. I would occasionally tune in to the live stream so it would be cool to see it come back at some point, though!

And thanks for answering my question :)

Audio is what podcasting is about. A pure radio experience. Video podcasts compare very badly with TV and I cant send them. Urgh.

There is nothing culturally insensitive about May 5th. Eat your tacos, drink your Corona, slam tequila and dance to Mexican music. 99% of people don't even know the true meaning of May 5th anyway. This whole being offended by everything is getting exhausting.

Living In An Android World

Video is ok, audio only is ok too. Seen your mugs earlier so looking at you guys and girls really isn't a necessity while listening to you. :)

Besides if you all are on a conference call, who wants to see a video of that?
Last podcast worked fine, I was on the riding lawn mower while I was tuned in. Worked for me.

Lack of video is why I don't listen to the Android Central podcast.

I do watch the TwitTV All About Android podcast, since it has video.

Posted via the Android Central App

Okay I don't understand why some people need video. What exactly are Phil, Jerry and that other dude from England doing that you people need to see them? They are just talking. They do a very good job at talking as well. I listen to the podcast on Tunein radio and recently I been listening on Google Play Music. I listen to the podcast while driving down the road sometimes. Video would not be a viable option in that situation. Aside from the political correctness I love the Android Central podcast. On a scale of 1-10 I give the Android Central podcast a 9.

Posted via the Android Central App

It's simple, Ace. Some of us prefer tunes over voice. Unless you're into talk radio and hate music...

I'm just saying I listen to the podcast versus watching. People don't need to pack and move to Canada over this. I've been a listener versus a watcher of the Android Central podcast over two years.

Living In An Android World

Why not? Some of us have been watchers for that amount of time, and a lot longer. Some of us don't care, or want, to listen to an audio stream. When we are being told that the best part of coming to this website has ceased to exist, why wouldn't we look elsewhere?

Okay that's cool and everything but could you please tell me exactly what you guys are looking at????

Living In An Android World

Damn Phil, mass hysteria right in front of your eyes... I mean voice. How about next week you run the show with video and no audio. That would really ruffle a few feathers.

.... Or just do video and audio not like it is hard to do a video hangout

Posted from my Nexus 6/Nexus 7 2013/Surface Pro 3

Actually I have one last comment then I'll go. I don't for a minute believe that this was solely Phils decision. Rene Ritchie has been ******** for a while about hangout claiming it doesn't work and that's why he stopped their video feed. I think as Editor in Chief of Mobile Nations he shut it down. Gotta do what the boss says and Rene rules supreme. He's a jerk and has his nose so far up Apple's ass that he doesn't care about seeing the AC site do better than iMore. He's the ulitmate Apple fanboy. Just my opinion, yours I'm sure will be different. Later

I think this makes more sense than anything. Even if Phil is always travelling, making wgaf videos that 3k peeps watch on youtube... there is no reason the other guys cannot do a video podcast. As that is how they used to do it. Maybe they get paid more to be on video vs audio, and they decided to cut those expenses to put them towards something else.

Wait. I didn't know this. I thought Phil was the head honcho. You're telling me it is that fruit loop? Well ****.

I was surprised to hear your comments on app-specific passwords, which can be generated for apps that do not support Google two-factor authentication. As far as I understood, there is nothing app-specific about these at all - if I generate such a password and entered it into your, say email app, then I am actually giving you full access to my Google account - there is nothing in place to restrict it to just you or your app. Feels like a really bad idea to me, and I have never used them.

So no more video podcasts? I like them either way but just curious since it has been over a month.

Edit - Oh, you talk about it right away on the podcast.

Re: The guy asking about tablets and the Nexus 9 - I feel his pain. I love the form factor of my Nexus 9, love the speakers... But it is a buggy, crashy, over heating mess. I think Jerry alluded to it, but I'll flat out say it, Nvidia processors are the problem, I don't think I'll ever buy one again.

If I were in the market for a tablet right now, I really don't know what I'd buy. Maybe a Tab S2 is the best bet... Hopefully if Google improve android for tablets, the market will pick up again.

Re: May the 5th - we don't have that holiday over here (well maybe a few celebrate it, but it's not something I've heard of). But it seems pretty weird to me. It would almost be like everyone wearing in berrets, strings of onions, eating snails and generally imitating some exaggerated stereotype of a French person while drinking heavily... But hey, we do St Patrick's day, and that's more or less the same.

I am surprised you guys restore to new phones instead of set them up as new. It's hard to evaluate a device for bugs or performance issues if you do that...
