LG Optimus G Pro

Sales topped 10,000 on opening day; no U.S. operator has announced plans to carry

LG has revealed that it has sold over 500,000 Optimus G Pro devices in Korea just over a month after release on February 21st. The 5.5-inch behemoth, which was first shown off at MWC, is a spiritual successor to the original Optimus G focusing more on raw specs and less on design. If you needed a little spec refresher, the Optimus G Pro is packing a huge 5.5-inch 1080P display, Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM and every other bell and whistle (both hardware and software) that LG could come up with. With all of that in one device, it's no surprise that it has sold well in Korea.

There's still no indication when (or if, save for a vague reference in the original press release) the device will ever make it to U.S. shores, but we surely hope that it does considering at least two carriers picked up the original Optimus G. If you haven't had a chance to read our review, be sure to do so -- you can then be appropriately excited if availability of the device is announced stateside.

LG sells 500,000 Optimus G Pro devices within 40 days of Korean launch

It would be awesome if T-Mobile carried it. Samsung seriously needs some competition in the "phablet" department, here in the States.

Lg are pretenders in this space. There is ONLY ONE leader in this space and of course that's Samsung. It's great to copy looks but they definitely couldn't copy software and that's exactly where LG FALLS gravely short. All the Lg Optimus G pro is happens to be nothing more than a large screen smartphone nothing more nothing less. The Galaxy Note 2 is the GOLD STANDARD of technology today the device every manufacturer is trying to catch up to and copy as of today. The Galaxy Note 2 is the BEST ultimate all purpose productivity device ever made since the inception of android period. Lg will compare or compete with Samsung who are the leaders in this space not the followers.

Oh please you must have never touched a recent LG phone the UI on it is far less invasive than Samsung's heavily bloated Touchwiz UI. LGs software is smooth as hell even on ICS and a lowly single core processor. Get off Samsung's cock and try something different.

Wow somebody has some serious Samsung love. My wife has the Note II and while it's a great phone it's certainly not the 'gold standard' as you claim. Samsung badly needs competition in the 5"+ space and I hope all carriers will bring this phone to the States sooner rather than later. From what I've seen LG knocked it out of the park with this phone. The Verge gave it a 7.9 (which is solid) and a few other sites have it in the 8-8.5 range. Unless you have used this phone (and it's obvious you have NOT) to claim that LG falls short and is "nothing more than a large screen smartphone" shows your ignorance. I think this will be a great phone and I would consider it a day one purchase as soon as it releases.

I just do not see this challenging the Note Series. The Note 2 is a sweet device package. Samsung really hit the niche at the right time and will dominate...

Condolences to everyone who ordered a normal Optimus G who then got burned a month or two ago when the Pro was announced before the normal one even shipped.

They are 2 completely different devices. Comparing them would be like comparing the S3 to the Note 2 (sort of).

As for this vs the Note 2, If all you want is a giant screen, then this is a great option. If you want S-Pen type functionality, then there is no comparison.
