HTC Vive

Valve and HTC plan to hand out their new virtual reality headset to select developers for free. A sign-up page has launched where those interested in the new product can take a shot at getting one themselves.

Vive developer units will be shipped throughout Spring and Summer and both HTC and Valve will be distributing dev kits continually. Supplies will be limited from the get go, so you'll have to be a lucky soul to be in with a chance of receiving one as a developer. Unfortunately, for consumers there's no option to pre-order or purchase the new VR kit, though Valve and HTC are expected to launch a commercial version later this year.

"Our goal is to support as many VR content creators as possible and, to that end, we will be distributing dev kits continually, with new units going out every couple weeks. However, supplies may be limited. "

The developer community forum has also been opened, which is available to everyone but only those with a Vive headset will be able to publish new posts and engage in conversation. But a least the general public will be able to keep tabs on how things are progressing. Check out the sign-up page for more details.

We managed to enjoy some hands-on time with the headset back at Mobile World Congress, which is well worth checking out
