Google Play Newsstand

Get the best of Android Central in Google's latest news app

Android Central on Google PlayGoogle has rounded up what used to be Currents and put it together with Magazine subscriptions in Google Play Newsstand, but rest assured that you can still read Android Central in the new app. We've recently crossed over the absolutely crazy 1 million subscriber number (we've come a long way) on Play Newsstand, but we're hoping the growth doesn't stop there.

If you've just updated to the new Play Newsstand app and are looking for some great Android news to read in the spiffy new interface, adding Android Central couldn't be easier:

  • Update your Play Magazines app to the new Play Newsstand if you haven't yet.
  • Click or tap the Google Play badge above (or link below), which takes you to the Android Central listing.
  • If you're on a computer, click the "Add" button and it will sync to your Play Newsstand app automatically.
  • If you're on a phone or tablet, tap the "Read" button, and be taken to Newsstand for all of the AC goodness!

Subscribe to the Android Central feed on Play Newsstand!

Why is newsstand an hour or two behind the website/app. Same with giz and Engadget too. Not too useful when up-to-date news might help from losing out on something.

Because of however Google pulls the feed. Nothing we can do about it. Our app, however, is real-time. :-)

That is why I stopped using currents and downloaded the Android Central app. Currents and Newstand are always behind.

There's a lot to like in the new iteration of Currents, I think. The animations are beautiful.

Gonna spend some time poking around.

I still prefer Currents. I poked around newsstand and still have no interest in buying magazines. Also, there is no widget on Newsstand.

What current sites that the Android app doesn't is sync so you can read articles without an internet connection.

If you want real time and the ability to leave comments then the Android central is the way to go.

Talk about fragmentation. So now we have Google Play Magazines, Currents, and now Newstand? See what happens when you kill Reader....

Read a bit....
They will migrate Currents and Google Play Magazines in Newstand (and kill them probably).

Before there was Reader and Play Magazines, now there's just Newsstand. Get over yourself, Reader was nothing special.

Winter is coming. She's quite the screamer.

I've been having some intermittent problems with Feedly lately, so Newsstand couldn't have come at a better time. Think I will check it out for awhile.

Anything you had added in Currents will be available in Newsstand. As for how long Currents will actually be around independently, who knows.

I'll stick with AC app.I need too know ASAP when Samsung gives free stuff away.

The reviews of news stand is really discouraging. I'll just stick to the more reliable AC app.

Nice! I got lost over there in Newsstand with so many interesting reads. I think I'll use the app often, mainly the free content, though.
