Verizon HTC One

Verizon stalls with the finish line in sight

HTC America VP Jason Mackenzie has taken to Twitter this evening to break the bad news about the HTC One 4.3 update on Big Red:

It's disappointing, but are we really surprised to see Verizon delay yet another software update? Fill the comments with all your good thoughts.

They give the worst smartphone experience. I have sprint, and even though their LTE footprint is as big as my cats paw, I'll still choose them over Verizon.

No, they give the worst Android smartphone experience. iPhone users all get updates at the same time.

I really wish wireless carriers were more like home ISPs. You pay them for their service but you have to bring your own devices to use on their network.

It's obvious you don't read any reports on consumer rating of networks... And how is it a company that cost more and has the most customers has the lowest churn ...

But yet an ignorant comment saying they have a horrible smartphone experience....Lmao .. I guess it must suck for it to actually work huh...

I see these kind of comments a lot, but Sprint is not awful in my area. And I've never had any problems with service while vacationing throughout the US, either. I guess I'm lucky.

that's the thing with Sprint. Way to spotty and I had no service (roaming mostly) more times than I did have service. had to pony up extra cash to go to Verizon bt I'm willing to pay to have 4G LTE everywhere

Verizon coverage where I live sucks. T-Mobile is king in this area...Hard to believe, but true. I'm on Sprint.

Really and what's the difference between 4.2 and 4.3? And the galaxy s4 for Verizon is the first to get the 4.3 upgrade before the other carriers. So good luck with your lame sprint with their horrible smartphone experience.

Bet this is what's happening with the 4.3 update for the S4....

It's sad that you work for AC and your comments are so biased towards the HTC One. Kinda makes me lose respect and credibility for anything you say :/

He's just a writer. Nothing special. His comment is his opinion, doesn't reflect Mobile Nations as a whole.

@XavierMatt I don't know why I can't reply to your comment but you're absolutely right it doesn't reflect AC in general. But I think it's sad at how he tries to start a discussion which is pointless because the OP wasn't even trying to start anything.

What are you referring too? Really that's what your most worried about? You need to rethink things.

Mhm... you know he's a moderator and writer, right?

Posted from my pure Google Nexus 4 using the AC app.

I am only surprised the Nexus 5 hasn't been mentioned at this point

The Verizon 4S update us pushing Kevin ... I downloaded it last night

What do u mean this is what's happening with the s4?? Verizon's s4 was updated to 4.3 last night.

Go stock or go home has been my motto as of late lol if your not happy you have to wait I know a phone you might like...Nexus ftw

Verizon haters are jealous of their superior service so this comment doesn't surprise me. Tired of your dial up speeds on Sprint or T-Mobile?

Posted via Android Central App

In an earlier article, you blamed others for bashing Verizon. Yet, here you are bashing Sprint and T-Mobile.

Don't dish it, if you can't take it, lol. Honestly, no one would keep paying for a service that doesn't work for them. That should tell you something.

Bloody Mary's are amazing, right? I like mine really spicy.

Left Verizon for ATT five months ago for the N4. No jealousy here. Same coverage with better reception in some areas. Was with them for seven years. Money wasted in my opinion.

Posted via Android Central App

I've been on sprint and t mobile, sprint is dial up when I was getting less than 100kbs. But when I get 32mbs down on T-Mobile that's high speed faster than my cable at home

Posted via Android Central App

Not jealous whatsoever. Sure you have faster speeds at the moment, but at least I/we are not data capped...or pay for overages of data. If you're grandfathered in....I'm sure VZW will stop that just like AT&T has. So I guess that juice on your chin that Jerry saw was from you biting your bottom lip in anger? :)

I switched to AT&T and I get way faster speeds than I ever did on Verizon. In also tired of not getting screwed over prices anymore since they offer good deals for prepaid.

I'm just glad he broke the news and not let the owners of the One think it's HTC but their carrier.

Sent from my Note 3 rockin Jelly Bean 4.3

I can't remember one time Verizon got an update out in a timely matter, way to go VZW....you incompetent morons!

Posted via Android Central App

I agree so why is it a month off?

Honestly it could very well be they are trying to patch the rumrunner exploit that lets you achieve s-off and unlocks your bootloader. Verizon can't let people be happy. They have a reputation to uphold.

The Verizon One has had 4.2.2 for a while now. There's not much new in 4.3 for the One. I don't see why people have an issue with this-i mean, you bought a phone from Verizon, what did you expect?

Posted via Android Central App

Just because this is the norm for VZW doesn't mean we have to be happy about getting bent over a barrel.

Annoying? Yes. Tired of late updates? Yes. But let's face it, there are no perfect carriers. I'd rather drop 3 bills on a phone and plan that has a service area that actually allows me to use the device I paying for. All of this "me me me" and instant gratification nonsense is for the birds.

Posted via Android Central App

It is, and yet still better than beta testing for google

Right after I praised them for getting the S4 4.3 update first, I get screwed over.

Oh well.I like AOSP anyway. I just have a flash addiction.

Posted via Android Central App

Considering all the problems everyone else has been having with their 4.3 update for once I won't complain about a delay with Verizon.

Posted via Android Central App

People don't get it man.... I hate waiting for Verizons update but if it ain't right Verizon isn't putting it out.... Period...now idk know if that's the issue but I've read tons about issues with 4.3 updates on this phone .... And my 4.2.2 is working perfectly so I'd rather it be right

Posted via Android Central App

Definitely not what's happening with the S4. Mine is downloading as we speak.

4.3 doesn't change much from 4.2.2. Those on other carriers skipped that and went straight to 4.3, which was a big deal. Is this a pain for Verizon? Yes. End of the world? No.

I Feel So Sorry for One users with this carrier..

T-Mobile.. Forever.

So sad. Really surprised. After switching to a Nexus I'll never go back to Verizon. I never appreciated their software approval period. Because they let some crappy software through.

Seeing as how HTC recently announced US variants of the One will be getting Sense 5.5, it's probably a safe bet that it will have Sense 5.5.

Lol@the people still guessing where the s4 update is. It's out and pushing through ota don't wanna wait check it through your usual software update methods. It's live and I'm using it as we speak on my s4. I'd rather have decent service than constant phone updates. Sprint was terrible coverage wise in my area.

Verizon is once again up to its dirty tricks. Verizon delays updates for as long as possible. They will indefinitely delay "certifying" the Nexus 7 LTE.

In the end, isn't it all about the user experience? I finally upgraded my Galaxy Nexus to the HTC One on Verizon during the great unlimited data upgrade glitch of 2013 and I am in love with this phone. I haven't needed to reboot, it's fast, sexy, the camera is awesome (I'm a photographer), the unlimited LTE is great, battery life is pretty good (especially compared to the GNex), and HTC Sense feels good. I have a Nexus 7 2012 and 2013 so I know what 4.3 is like, and I haven't felt like I needed it. The only thing I would like the update for is to use a home screen panel for more shortcuts as opposed to Blinkfeed (which I don't think is bad). Count me in as an extremely happy HTC One user on Verizon.

I agree man. I've had the Galaxy Nexus, GS3, Note 2, and now the HTC One. I really like the polish of Sense. When I'm in the mood for some vanilla Android I just fire up my new Nexus 7. I have my device S-Off, and always find myself coming back to stock software (minus bloatware)

I love what sense has done, but I cannot give the s pen up.

Hopefully when they do update the HTC One, they update includes support for band IV LTE and/or Sense 5.5.

The phone has 4.2.2 as much as I want 4.3 ... We aren't missing much at all....and yes I'm sure they don't want two major updates pushing out at the same time.... Imo I get that the GS4 is a bigger seller but they should have stayed with their word...
I hope all of you bash whoever had the last update on the GS4 or dropped the LG G2 and moto x or who was last to roll out LTE as much as you have to say here...
It's natural u tell Verizon user our updates suck... We tell u ur service sucks (other than AT&T ) and u really have nothing left to brag about.. price? Well I doubt u would say to a Benz owner ... Oh u paid more.... It's cause they want more

Posted via Android Central App

Sense 5+ is honest to God the biggest reason why I miss my rooted DNA (even tho wife has it now). Imho it is the best manufacturer ui overlay of android by a mile. Hope the VZW one gets 5.5 so it can be ported to the DNA. :)

Posted via Android Central App

Updated to 4.3 and sense 5.5 over a week ago. But then, thats here in the old world :-). Sense just keeps getting better!

Like someone said before, I rather have good service than updates. Sprint and other carriers may think that pushing out updates before anybody else is most important than upgrading their towers and their systems to provide better service. I left sprint almost a year ago and I cannot be any happier with VZ. I use my phones for my business so having strong signal and LTE available all around Arizona is much more important than updates. I don't even have time for that. My HTC one works perfect, I don't know what else they can do to make it better. I remember the last phone I had with Sprint was the HTC EVO lte, and when it was upgraded to Jelly bean it just made it worse. I hated the phone after the update. So updates are not necessarily good; it could if done right and with enough time for testing and that's probably the reason why VZ will take more time to make sure they get it right.

And yet they were the first with the GS4 ... The Verizon hate is getting really old folks

Posted via Android Central App on my daily driver, the Droid MAX

yes but what about this EVO LTE of mine and my EVO LTE brethren, the waiting is beating me senseless and yess that is a pun that was infact intended but still, end of 2013 is not enough of an answer to satisfy me.
