Gmail Shelfie: share your selfie as your friend's Gmail theme

Google is celebrating Gmail's birthday and April Fool's today. They've announced "Shelfies" as a way to share your selfies (SHare sELFIES — get it?) through the Gmail interface.

Billed as a replacement theme that will be rolling out in the next few hours, Google also tells us that self-portraits are much more popular than pirate themes. They even have a chart to prove it.

As far as April Fool's pranks go, this one is pretty lame. If this is something that really ends up rolling out, it's even lamer.

Gmail Shelfie: share your selfie as your friend's Gmail theme

April's fool nonsense aside, the trend towards blindly admiring some person who happens to have been outfitted with coincidental looks while ignoring their mindset really is appalling.

Wat? Who said I admired her? Does the fact that I know what she looks like make me a hardcore fan? She can't even sing.

Actually it took me a minute to figure it out too, with the lack of make-up it is hard to tell.

Zoey and Katy are almost twins by their face, except zoey can sing AND Act, katy couldn't act to save her life.

If you Google Zoey with No Bangs you won't even recognize her.

Lol, I knew someone would say it.

This is the message when sharing through G+:
"I'm using a custom theme in Gmail on the Web and I think you'll like it too! Check it out on your desktop or laptop. #gmailthemes"
I think it's going to be called "Gmail Custom Themes" instead.

I get that it's a joke, but I'm actually kind of diggin' the Shelfies (though the name is terrible). Now I'm starting to hope that it stays a gmail feature.

Come on, the Katy Perry selfie was great and it was nice that it was actually dynamic, i really want a dynamic theme for gmail, it gives it life
