First wave of HTC Vive Developer Editions start shipping out

The first wave of the Developer Editions of the HTC Vive virtual reality headset has started shipping out to select developers. Created in a partnership between HTC and Valve, the Vive is a full-fledged virtual reality system meant for PCs. The box contains a headset, two Lighthouse base stations for tracking, two wireless controllers, and several different cables to get started. The first shipments of the developer edition are headed out to movie studios, game developers, and more.

From Valve:

This week, we have started shipping the Vive Developer Editions. This first wave includes a wide range of developers from major movie studios, triple A developers, to small indie teams working on their first title. We will continue to ship to additional developers through the spring and summer.

The Vive first debuted in March at this year's Mobile World Congress. Valve and HTC hope to offer a "full-room scale 360 degree solution" for greater immersion than other headsets, and the Vive will have support for Unreal Engine 4.
