HTC has announced that a new over-the-air update is now rolling out for the international HTC One X (that's the unlocked, HSPA+, Tegra 3 version). This is essentially the same update that the AT&T One X got a few days back, bringing the One X up to Android 4.0.4 (from 4.0.3), and introducing a number of Sense-specific enhancements, including a re-mapping of the 'recent apps' key. Other notables include a new tab-switching button in the browser, white balance adjustment and continuous autofocus in the camera app, and some HTC Media Link improvements in the OpenSense SDK.

HTC says the update will start to filter out to customers today, Aug. 10, so if you're rocking a One X outside of North America, head to Settings > About phone > Software updates to see if your OTA is ready.

Here's HTC's full statement on today's update --

As part of our ongoing commitment to ensure customers are receiving software updates that improve their user experience, we are pleased to announce our next upgrade for the HTC One X will be released on August 10th.

The primary update will include an upgrade to Android version 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich), in addition to an improved Sense experience which will: enable the ability to map menu function to the 'recent app' key (improving visual presentation in non ICS apps like Facebook); improve tab management in the browser with a dedicated tab switching button and enhance camera capabilities such as white balance and continuous autofocus.  Furthermore, customers can expect enhancements to memory, platform stability and the overall browsing experience. Other improvements include a Single Sign-On for Facebook allowing user access across applications and browsers and upgrades to Beats audio, which reflect our dedication to providing an authentic sound experience.

From a developer perspective, we are expanding SDK support for Media Link and providing a framework for video call applications to achieve improved performance and quality.

As always HTC is one version behind

JobiWan144 says:

Just like every other OEM.

crxssi says:

If not two or three versions...

Because they have to focus on mass quality control. They don't get the leisure of putting out a half baked ROM and then update it every day for a month to get it damn near bugless.

emceesquared says:

does anyone know if/when the EVO 4G LTE will be getting updated?

crxssi says:

Exactly. When is it coming to the faster USA versions (S4 powered One X and Evo LTE)?

a22matic says:

I'm w/both of you on this one! We haven't heard a peep yet...

As stated in the article, the US One X on AT&T already received it.

crxssi says:

Ooops, sorry, missed that. I must be dense this morning :)

It already came to the S4 One X

a22matic says:

I was referring to the EVO LTE mention...

capt4chris says:

I would love this update as well on my Evo LTE!

MrLadoodle says:

How on earth did you gather the S4 was faster then the Tegra 3?

The new Sense 4.1 fixes all the T3 issues.

crxssi says:

Read just about any review of the two on the planet. The S4 *is* faster than the Tegra 3. It is a much more modern architecture. The Tegra 3 might do a bit better on some graphics, however.

MrLadoodle says:

No, it pretty much matched in CPU power. However the new kernel in this update is known to dramatically increase the Tegra 3 optimisation, it gets a higher quadrant then the S4 now.

Have the unlocked international version here in Oklahoma. Woke up to the update. I like the changes especially now that I can hide that awful menu button!

needsmoar says:

Just loaded IceColdJelly, I think I'll stick with that.

hmmm says:

The menu remapping is nice. It was my number one reason for rooting my phone.

corybullis says:

I have one of them international HTC One X's and I'm in Canada - nothing so far

Ichwardort says:

I really love my One X, it's a great phone, but if there's one thing that drives me crazy then it's the missing menu button! Thanks HTC for fixing this!

corybullis says:

am I the only one NOT receiving this update? why must i be the unlucky one

icebike says:

There are actually more than one version of the international HOX.
They are identical hardware wise, but were sold with slightly different software loads into different markets.

Mine was sold into the far East Asia market , and it always seems to get updates one to three days later than those sold into Europe.

MrLadoodle says:

Its usually a little carrier testing, luckily since its the same hardware and GSM it only takes roughly 3-4 days.

icebike says:

That's SUPPOSED TO BE the beauty of the international unlocked version, No Carrier interference. I don't have to wait for AT&T to bless this release.

MrLadoodle says:

If you brought the unlocked version then you get updates straight for HTC. They roll out updates gradually to help the download servers.

I was referring to networks which sell the One X (still the same Tegra 3 version but usually slightly tweaked such as boot animations).

Valter.VX says:

Portugal - Haven't received the update yet :(

ZigmunD says:

Too late, I'm on JB already.

corybullis says:

my unlocked International HTC One X continues to sit with no update. sad panda

AGutierrez80 says:

Hi, i'm from Portugal and i just got the update!
The only notable things are the switching tab button and the long press for menu option... and it as smoother animations! I was looking forward for the quick settings notification bar... but no such thing! It's good to have an update though! It show they care!

Still waiting for my update here in the UK for my unbranded HOX. Is there something I have done wrong?

4dogstech says:

Had the update last Friday, blistering fast, leaves the SGS3 in second place, best quadrant 6100 I have posted videos on youtube under 4dogstech

corybullis says:

still no update for me

D1rT says:

I've rooted International One X, received the update today. But when I try to install it, my phone restarts and it loads the ClockworkMod Recovery. I don't know what to do, I've rooted my phone a couple of weeks ago and I'm not sure how to proceed now.

Any help would be appreciated.

corybullis says:

seriously? it's been a week and my unlocked international htc one x has NOT received the update. what the hell

AshleyT3 says:

I still don't have the update yet. My phone is from Hong Kong Idk if that has anything to do with it but yea your not alone Cory.

Same here -- Phone is international unlocked from the UK but being used in Canada. No update yet.

AshleyT3 says:

I spoke to a rep from HTC and mentioned that I had not gotten an update yet but my boyfriend did who is using the same phone but his is from Europe we live in the us. I got notification about a update the same day he did only he got 4.0.4 and I still had 4.0.3. The guy from HTC said that google sends out the updates by serial number and after 2-3 weeks they would just send it out to everyone who didn't have it yet. in two days it will have been 3 weeks I hope he was right. The weirdest part was that my phone updated but I saw no change in anything and like I said it was the same day my boyfriend got his. Hopefully he was right.
