Facebook beta

Facebook's beta app for Android has gotten an update today — and it's one we've been waiting for for quite some time. You can now edit your posts and comments.

Finally.

Here's the full changelog:

  • Use icons in status updates to express what you’re feeling or doing
  • Edit your posts and comments, and tap to see all your changes
  • See upcoming events at a glance on your favorite Pages
  • Create and share new photo albums from your phone

Fixes/Changes

  • Various bug & crash fixes
  • “Show on lockscreen” setting is visible again
  • Improvements to photo loading in news feed
  • Improvements to news feed load time

Known issues

  • Most Recent setting in News Feed not sticking

Again, this is for the Facebook beta track, and not production. But if you want to get in on the action — and, frankly, we'd recommend it at this point, you can join the group here.

i updated my app but i see NONE of these changes

Mine updated and I have all those changes, are you sure you're in the beta?

BoB16731 says:

yep

outlooker says:

Same thing here. I'm signed up for beta for the Facebook app and the update didn't bring any if these.

BB_Bmore says:

Did you uninstall facebook before you installed the beta? Also to confirm the beta is build 3.7?

outlooker says:

Yep, my beta is of build 3.7.
None of the above features though.

Deke218 says:

I still wouldn't put it on my phone. Too much bloat. Too much battery drain. Too many privacy issues.

BoB16731 says:

your a silly kinda stupid huh ... the so called battery drain was fixed on last release hangouts chews up more battery then the facebook app

Jlav78 says:

... you missed the other reasons.

I quit Facebook not that long ago because it was so annoying, it's good to delete it and switch

Whatever your issues with FB are they are irrelevant to this article but thanks for the needless info anyways.

I still can't find how to post them feeling things.

I'm Facebook free for several years now and couldn't be happier. I assume I'm in the drastic minority though.

Unfortunately yes.

There's over one billion Facebook users and over 6 billion non-Facebook using people on the earth. Even though most can't get online yet, the minority is those that use Facebook.

I quit Facebook as well, couldn't be happier

The Most Recent setting not sticking isn't a glitch, it's a feature!

Seriously, Facebook will not fix that. Ever.

Posted via Android Central App and Droid Mini

Why though, it doesn't benefit them

Noodlez says:

ugh it can't be that hard to fix the Most Recent setting in News Feed not sticking

Noodlez says:

oh it seems to be sticking... fingers crossed. lol

feelium says:

The changes weren't visible to me at first but after killing the app a few times and then entering my own timeline, clicking the down-arrow on a status I saw the option to edit it. Then I tried to post a new status (still from my own timeline, not the newsfeed) and saw the feelings icons. Since then the feelings icons show up when I post a status update from the newsfeed as well.

Don't know if all this clicking around in the app really helped or if it just were supposed to take some time, but this is how it showed up for me.

I was having trouble with the app crashing after the update, but was able to fix it by force closing it and clearing cache and data and relaunching. It is now working well. They have since posted on the Facebook Beta Users Group that icons in status updates aren't working correctly for some users, but they are currently working to correct it as of 32 minutes ago..

jlh73 says:

Yes. You have to kill the app then launch again. Then everything works. At least it did for me.

It's working fine for me... and not sure how or why but my Most Recent setting for my newsfeed IS sticking with this update.

Does anyone know what a blue circle with and N inside means next to some people on the chat status???

DarkNeo says:

It means they are on FB messenger

nathy321 says:

Ohh ok, thanks

There are still way to many CPU wakeups for this app. The battery drain is not fixed. There needs to be a setting where the app sits idle until the user activates it. I don't want to root my phone just to make this app behave.

Don't need to root battery guru can do this you can also just set it in Facebook settings

Most Recent seems to be sticking now

Have the feature but seriously buggy. When you try to edit the scxcreen goes crazy and random words are selected. Makes it effectively impossible to use

why can't I edit my comments here?

Does anyone know why i can't use the 'feeling' feature? Let me explain this to you. I go to status, i click the smiley face for using the feature, i click feeling, then whatever, and after i choose one it brings me back to the 'feeling' menu', i mean where u choose feeling/drinking/whatever. If i go back to the status page there is no 'feeling' in my status. Anyone had the same problem? I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II GT-N7100 with KitKat 4.4.2 .
