The DROID MAXX 2 may be Verizon's Moto X Play

According to a new leak, the Moto X Play may actually make its way to the US and land on Verizon, but under the branding of its DROID line. Internally, the phone is said to be identical to the Play, with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 1.65GHz Snapdragon 615, 2GB of RAM, 8GB of storage with a microSD slot and even the 21MP camera on the rear. The difference, however, is that this variant will feature all of Verizon's branding and bloat.

Currently, the phone is carrying a code name of "lux" and is said to be model number XT1565. The Moto X Play is using model numbers XT1562 and XT1563, which are very similar. With the Moto X Play recently becoming available in the UK, it may not be all that long before we see an official announcement from Verizon.
