YouTube offers a sneak peek at its immersive virtual reality app

YouTube has unveiled the virtual reality version of its app for Google's Daydream VR platform. Announced during the Google I/O 2016 keynote earlier this week, the app provides a more immersive VR experience for YouTube, going beyond just supporting VR videos to offer a brand new interface for the entire app.

From YouTube:

We're creating the YouTube VR app to provide an easier, more immersive way to find and experience virtual reality content on YouTube. It also comes with all the YouTube features you already love, like voice search, discovery, and playlists, all personalized for you, so you can experience the world's largest collection of VR videos in a whole new way.

With YouTube VR, you'll be able to watch all of the videos on the service in 3D. Additionally, YouTube is working with a number of content providers such as the NBA and Tastemade to bring people new VR stories. It is also working with partners to build cameras ready for Google's Jump 360-degree camera rig.

While not announcing a specific release date, YouTube did say that its new VR app would be released later this year.
