Because even middle-schoolers have smartphones these days.

Wikipedia has dirty content? I assume someone edited a wiki page to have some dirty-ness and promptly asked Google "define" and it just read it off wiki. Would be awesome if it could read off definitions from urban dictionary though.

Haha. OK Google, what is "felching"? XD

Yes, apparently I am 12! (Figuratively)

JAJAJA! LMAO!

what happens now when watching espn they said miguel cabrera hit an upper decker?

Kind of sad middle schoolers have such expensive phones.

I never got my first phone till I was a junior in high school and it was just a flip phone. My first smartphone wasn't till I was 20.

It is sad they have shoes. Why, when I was just a wee boy...

I'm kidding...

fuzzylumpkin says:

My first phone was pretty rubbish too (an Ericson PF768), but then, it was the 90's they all were.

Was there anything better than a flip phone available? (What is a"junior in high school" anyway?)

High School has four different grades, however instead of being assigned numbers, they are assigned names, or at least in the US. So it goes:

Freshman
Sophomore
Junior
Senior

Hope that helps!

It does, thanks! In the UK we only have primary school and high school and the grades are just "year 1" through to "year 11". Admittedly, it's not as imaginative.

So, a US junior would be doing his first year at college.

Insp_Gadget says:

In the US, school levels run like this:

Elementary School: Kindergarten (typically starting at age 5) and then grades 1-6 (starting at age 6 and ending at age 12-13)

Middle School: Grades 7-8 (sometimes 6-8) Ages 13-14 (sometimes starting at 12 depending on number of grades)

Junior High: Grades 7-9 Ages: 13-15 (Junior High is now replaced by Middle School in most jurisdictions)

High School: Grades 9-12 (Ages 15-18) (These are the Freshmen through Seniors, not to be confused with College Freshmen through Senior)

Ages of students can vary, depending on what month they were born versus the overlap of the school year, since the school year in the US begins in late August/early September.

After high school is college: Associates degree level-2 years, followed by Bachelor-4 years, Master's-6 years, and Doctorate (PhD)-8 years. The number of years is not requisite. That's just how long it typically takes to graduate if attending full-time. A student can do it in less time if classes are available in a tighter schedule and the student can handle the load.

Why is it sad that modern kids have advantages we didn't? Progress is a GOOD thing. It'll ensure the next generation is a step beyond us instead of artificially limiting them to our experience out of some sense of jealousy or unnecessary conservatism.

Also, not all smartphones are expensive. Just because they have a smartphone doesn't prove it cost them or their family a lot of money.

Exactly. Good smartphone, dumbphone price.

TIL what an Upper Decker is.
Thank you Internet.

Hey Kevin Whats with the Nom De Plume?

I'm glad you asked!

Go to www.about.me/cagemichaels

It's my alter ego / gamer name... that I may just change my name to. As for how it came about... people find Michaluk hard to pronounce, so Michaels only changes two letters.... and the Cage comes from Kevin J Michaluk... or KJ... which when you blend together is.... Cage. Cage Michaels baby!

fuzzylumpkin says:

Although my name isn't difficult to pronounce (though people often get it wrong) I'm totally using that principle! My new pseudonym is "Dodge DeFranco"!

Lets let Google now read what ever it wants. The little Kiddies will learn the words anyway no matter what parents want.
The parents know and some times use the words, their sweet little kiddies will learn and use the words too--just like all of us.
Relax.
