Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun announced on China's Weibo that the Redmi Note 2 will be unveiled on June 29.

Redmi Note

Unlike the first-generation Redmi Note — which was sold in 3G and LTE-enabled versions, the standard edition of the Redmi Note 2 will feature 4G connectivity out of the box.

Most of the details regarding the Redmi Note 2 are the result of numerous leaks and rumors, which suggest that the device will sport a metal body, with two plastic strips on the back — at the top and bottom — housing the antennae. A purported leaked image of the device highlights the metal body, and the button placement that sees the volume and power buttons on the right side of the handset.

As for the hardware, the Redmi Note 2 is said to feature a 5.5-inch full-HD display, MediaTek's Helio X10-based MT6795 SoC, 13MP camera, 5MP front shooter, the aforementioned LTE connectivity and a battery that's larger than 3,000mAh. We'll know more on June 29.
