Walmart has launched its own payment platform, Walmart Pay, in Alabama. The technology has been deployed in each of the Walmart stores within the state, allowing customers to conveniently pay with the retailer's app when checking out. The company is continuing to push its own service as opposed to teaming up with Google, Apple and others.

To use Walmart Pay, you'll need to set up the app with your chosen payment card. Then when you're at the checkout you'll be able to use Walmart Pay to scan a code displayed at the register, which will then forward an e-receipt to the app. It's not as seamless as say Android Pay or Apple Pay, but it's better than using your card or handing over cash.

Daniel Eckert, senior vice president, Services, Walmart U.S., commented on the announcement:

"We can't wait to hear what our customers and associates in Alabama think of Walmart Pay. The service was built to make shopping easier and faster, something we know our customers want. Walmart Pay is a powerful addition to our app, a tool that we're using to transform the shopping experience by seamlessly connecting our online assets and our stores for customers. The service opens the door to new and better ways we can serve the 140 million customers who shop our stores each week."
