Android sees huge growth through Jan. (what phone could have caused that?)

Phil Nickinson News Wednesday, 10 March 2010

Take a look at the latest smartphone usage numbers from Comscore, and you're likely to do a double-take -- Android increased by 4.3 percentage points from November '09 through January 2010 over the three previous months, giving it a 7.1 percent share. There's no doubt that Android's popularity continues to grow. But those numbers likely can (and should) be attributed to the introduction of just one phone: The

T-Mobile did a good job in 4Q 2009

Casey Chan News Thursday, 25 February 2010

T-Mobile actually did well in the fourth quarter of 2009. They added 371,000 new customers in 4Q compared to losing 77,000 in 3Q. It's still not as good as what they did in 4Q 2008 (added 621,000) but it's a step in the right direction. Since they offer very competitive rate plans and we're the first carriers to adopt Android, we'll always have a soft spot in our hearts for T...

Casey Chan News Wednesday, 18 November 2009

We're chalking up the DROID as a success and we're sure Motorola and Verizon are too. After reportedly selling 100,000 units in the first weekend, it looks like the DROID followed it up with roughly 250,000 in its first week. According to Flurry:

Through its analytics service, Flurry...

Numbers: Sprint Doing A Bit Better But Still Bad, Motorola Makes a Little Money

Casey Chan News Friday, 30 October 2009

Time for the check up on some Android-related companies who've been struggling in our economic downturn. Will actually having Android devices in their stable eventually help their bottom line? Let's take a look!

First up, Sprint. The good bad news: Sprint lost 801,000 postpaid subscribers which was actually under the analysts estimate of 870,000 losses. This is still bad news but certainly much better news than the 991,000 and 1.25 million...

Casey Chan News Thursday, 22 October 2009

According to HTC VP of Asia Pacific, Jack Tong, the HTC Hero is enjoying high demand and great sales in the European and Asian markets. Because of such hot demand, it looks like the Hero is in tight supply for the next month or so. According to Tong:

The tight production will not be eased until November and the sales momentum of HTC Hero is expected to continue in the first quarter of 2010.

We're excited to see...

HTC Magic To Hit 1 Million Units Shipped

Casey Chan News Friday, 19 June 2009

HTC CEO Peter Chou expects the HTC Magic to ship its millionth unit within "one to two months". Mind you, it's not exactly the same as 1 million units sold but HTC is very pleased with the current sales of the HTC Magic and expects it to beat many industry analysts' predictions. We guess tough economy or not, people still want their Android!

This is great news because it shows that the world is responding favorably to Android but even better...

Sprint Posts More Losses, Needs A Boost of Android

Casey Chan News Tuesday, 05 May 2009

Another quarter passes, another quarter of losses for the downtrodden carrier which is Sprint. Though this time the news is "less bad" than previous quarters--Sprint held losses to $594 million for Q1 and lost 182,000 subscribers--reports are beginning to surface that they might resort to outsourcing their network.

T-Mobile Posts Disappointing Financial Results

Casey Chan News Thursday, 23 April 2009

Yeah, that mean, mean animal of an economy shows no mercy. T-Mobile only had 415,000 net additions compared to 981,000 additions last year...you don't need an economist to tell you that's a pretty steep drop. It looks like T-Mobile is facing steeper competition from budget-carrier such as Boost Mobile, MetroPCS, etc. Expect more good deals to come out from T-Mobile to combat the competition.
