Dell Mini 5 Update: Headed to AT&T & T-Mobile, Maybe Runs Android 2.1

Casey Chan News Tuesday, 16 February 2010

The Dell Mini 5, which is a sleek and sexy MID-styled device we've seen before, just got hit with some new news. It's expected to release in the US on both AT&T and T-Mobile and will maybe, hopefully run Android 2.1.

To expand, the exact wording is that it'll be running "something newer" than Android 1.6 which means either Android 2.0 or 2.1 (or maybe something even newer?), and with...

Android-powered Dell Mini 5 is destined for AT&T 3G

Phil Nickinson News Saturday, 06 February 2010

Three things I believe in: Android will dominate the universe, everybody should go sailing at least three times in their life, and Engadget's ability to parse the FCC listings. And they've done it again, matching up the Dell Mini 5 -- which we recently saw in the hands of Michael Dell himself -- with AT&...

Dell Mini 5 teased by none other than Michael Dell

Phil Nickinson News Thursday, 28 January 2010

We're still eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Dell Mini 5 -- a five-inch Android-powered Mobile Internet Device also known as the Streak-- and we're going to keep waiting, apparently. Michael Dell himself teased TechCrunch with it recently, saying nothing more than "it'll be out in a couple months."

Despite the CEO's unwillingness to talk about the nuts and bolts of the Mini 5,

Phil Nickinson News Thursday, 21 January 2010

Good news for those of you with the Archos 5 Internet Tablet (not to be confused with that other tablet that doesn't yet exist): The Android 1.6 update that was pulled as quickly as it was released last month is ripe for the picking. That pesky browser problem that forced the delay presumably has been squashed. There's also better "...

Hands-on with the PCD MID650

Phil Nickinson News Friday, 08 January 2010

Another day, another Android MID. At least, that's kind of what it feels like. And here's the MID650 from PCD (PCDphones.com), whom we mainly know as the keeper of Verizon software upgrades. This is just a prototype, so you can't buy it anywhere, and it had a power issue at the time, so we didn't actually get to see Android running on it. But what we have here is a 5-inch TFT touchscreen at 800x480. It'll have...

Browser bug forces Archos to pull Android 1.6 update

Phil Nickinson News Monday, 28 December 2009

Whoopsie. No sooner than did Archos post an Android 1.6 update for the Archos 5 Internet Tablet, it apparently had to yank it. As you can see in the pic above, there was "a last-minute major issue with the Web Browser." The update was to bring improved video playback, better GPS fixes and some other Donut improvements. Archos hasn't re-released the update yet, so stay tuned. [

Dell Streak MID is rumored to make an appearance at CES next month

Phil Nickinson News Thursday, 28 January 2010

Remember the Dell Streak? Larger than a smartphone but smaller than a netbook, but running Android nonetheless? That makes it a MID, and it's now rumored that the Streak will make an appearance and/or launch at CES next month in Las Vegas. We'll be there. And if the Streak is there, we'll bring it to you. As for its plans in the United States (if any), well, that's still up in the air. [Pocket Lint via

Mysterious Android Powered MID Spotted, Looks Like The iPhone

Casey Chan News Tuesday, 18 August 2009

We know next to nothing about this Android-powered MID (pictured above) other than the fact that we wouldn't mind using one and that it looks exactly like an iPhone, right down to the black border and chrome trim. The MID also looks to include SD card expansion, a couple of buttons, and maybe even phone capabilities. Yeah, vague, we know.

Overall, we're going to keep an eye on this completely unknown device because as much as an...

Plus, the shade of green on the invitation should might as well be called

And though we're not particularly sure the exact target market for this type of device, it sure sounds drool-worthy. Ultra-thin, plays high-def video on its high-resolution 5-inch touchscreen, DivX playback, full screen Adobe Flash, and so much more.

There isn't a firm release date on this puppy but the start of Q3 2009...
