Amazon.com is now offering the HTC Droid Eris for the low price of $9.99. That's not too shabby considering before the holidays Best Buy offered the same device for $49.99. Keep in mind to get the price of $9.99 a new two-year contract with Verizon is needed.

Good news for Droid lovers: Droid loads and renders pages slightly faster than the Eris - so the extra $100 is well-spent

Bad news for Droid lovers: the iPhone 3GS beat the heck out of the Droid in the above test. Other tests taken after the video weren't quite as dramatic as what you're seeing here, but facts...

Sure, most of the attention is going to the Motorola Droid (and deservedly so, we suppose), but HTC's little Droid Eris is a worthy phone in its own right -- especially at $99.  If you're a widget-fanatic, HTC's Sense UI on the Eris is really slick, but otherwise we have to say advantage Droid.

There's a good look of a real, breathing, 3-dimensional DROID Eris. BGR's tipster says it runs pretty much exactly like the HTC Hero except it feels a little faster.
