AC @ MWC: Video of the Motorola Motoroi (XT720), Koreas first Android 2.0

Phil Nickinson News Monday, 15 February 2010

The Motorola Motoroi's been intriguing ever since it first leaked out of the depths of wherever such leaks come from. But in getting your hands (and watching the hands of a lovely Motorola representative) on the device, you really get a sense that despite a few obvious cues taken from the Motorola Droid, the Motoroi really isn't a keyboardless Droid.

For one, it lacks the hard lines of the Droid. You're not going to be...

Here it is, folks. The Motorola Motoroi, aka the XT720, aka the first Android 2.0 device released for the Korean market. At first blush you get the feel that it's a kindler, gentler Droid without a keyboard. But get the XT720 in your hand and you find that they don't have the same feeling in the slightest. No...

Phil Nickinson News Sunday, 27 December 2009

Rumors are like elbows and other things around here, so we're going to swallow some salt with this one. But AndroidSPIN says it has an anonymous tipster with word that the HTC G1 on T-Mobile -- as in the very first commercially available Android phone -- will be getting an Eclair update. And that's not out of the realm of...

Sprint: HTC Hero & Samsung Moment Getting Android 2.1, Not 2.0

Casey Chan News Thursday, 17 December 2009

Looks like Sprint is going to jump Android 1.6 and 2.0, and head straight to Android 2.1 for the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment. Which is really the most logical solution considering 2.1 is out and about. They previously said that the HTC Hero and Samsung Moment would receive the 2.0...

Motorola Sholes Tablet caught on camera

Phil Nickinson News Wednesday, 02 December 2009

Behold, the mythical (or not, we guess) Motorola Sholes. Our Mandarin Chinese is pretty darn bad, but the picture about speaks a thousand words: That's an HDMI port looking back at us. Tack on the 3.7-inch touchscreen (at WGVA resolution), a 3.5mm headphone jack, and 8MP camera with xenon flash, Android 2.0, TI OMAP 3430 (Cortex A8) processor, and so on and so forth. Any reason why we...

HTC Hero Caught Running Android 2.1

Casey Chan News Monday, 30 November 2009

Hey HTC Hero users, maybe you won't be left in the dust after all. A HTC Hero has been caught in the wild running Android 2.1--yeah, you read that right, not Android 1.6, not Android 2.0--but Android 2.1!

Android 2.1 is expected to be a minor update to the major update which was Android 2.0 'Eclair'. Android 2.0 is currently only available on the Motorola DROID--their are still devices stuck on either Android 1.5 or 1.6. It definitely makes more sense for HTC...

Android 2.0 Source Code Released, Ported to T-Mobile G1

Casey Chan News Saturday, 14 November 2009

Though the Android 2.0 'Eclair' SDK has been available for quite some time and the Motorola DROID runs Android 2.0 perfectly, the Android 2.0 source code has been kept under wraps for some particular reason (underhand deal with Motorola & Verizon?). This meant that all phone manufacturers outside of Motorola could only tinker with Android 1.6. Luckily, that has all changed.

Google has released the...

Casey Chan News Wednesday, 11 November 2009

It looks like the lovely folks over at xda-developers have already figured out how to port Googles Maps Navigation onto the forever-in-our-hearts T-Mobile G1. The explanation and specific hack is much too smart for us to process but it sounds like its running fine and working well. So even if Android 2.0 is ignoring all the other Android devices other than the DROID, know that the xda-developers...

Hey, hey! Look at the video above, it's your friendly T-Mobile G1 running the brand spanking new Android 2.0 'Eclair'. It's not a final Android 2.0 build nor is it anywhere close to being an official release, but it's definitely still a sight to see. The amazing minds we have in the Android community decided to port over what they...

Android 2.0 'Eclair' Leaked, Screenshots Look So Good

Casey Chan News Friday, 16 October 2009

Following up on the heels of their boot-up video of the Motorola Droid, BGR has just posted the first screenshots of Android 2.0 'Eclair'. And boy it's a doozy. This obviously isn't the final build of Android 2.0 but we're loving the new features it adds and the optimization (it'...

Multi-Touch Coming to Android in 2.0, Eclair ?

Casey Chan News Friday, 14 August 2009

One feature that has been conspicuously missing in Android since its launch has been a biggie--multi-touch. Multi-touch is the wonderful input method that reads multiple touch inputs at once. It gives for a more 'natural' control of input, instead of zooming in/out by tapping plus/minus signs, you can simply pinch or pull the screen. We...

Android 2.0 Donut Doesn’t Have Multitouch, Not Officially Android 2.0

Casey Chan News Thursday, 30 July 2009

It was fun while it lasted. The interwebs were a tizzy over rumored Android 2.0 multitouch support but sadly it looks like it won’t be made available. How do we know this? Android Framework Engineer Romain Guy said as much in the official Android Developers Google Group. He dropped another bomb that clarified Donut as NOT being Android 2.0.

What does this all mean? Well...

Android 2.0 Donut has been made available to developers and it’s an oh so lovely update—we can expect full multitouch, universal search, automatic backups, text-to-speech, a new camera application and even better performance. All these new features make Android all the more appetizing and certainly puts it on par with the newer features of iPhone 3.0 and the Palm webOS.

Will Android 2.0 Be Released Later This Summer?

Casey Chan News Thursday, 16 July 2009

We hate to start the waiting game so soon, especially since we're just comfortable and enjoying Cupcake now, but the AndroidGuys have reason to believe that Android 2.0 Donut will be released later this Summer. The developers of The Weather Channel Android application have admitted that the next update to their application, slated for late summer, will be built for Android 2.0.

This could mean a few...

Android 2.0 Update Codenamed Donut ?

Casey Chan News Tuesday, 12 May 2009

With the Android 1.5 Cupcake Update pushing out to Android Users sometime this week, talk is already beginning on the next Android update: 2.0. According to some reports, Android 2.0 is codenamed 'Donut', which obviously is a clear successor to 1.5's 'Cupcake'.

We're pretty big fans of the 'Donut'-moniker and think Android should keep it for 2.0. And if
