Skype for Android has been updated, adding a new chat layout and support for large, animated emoji in chats.

Skype for Android 5.3 brings several improvements to the chat experience

This new Skype update will add a number of improvements to the chat experience. The new bubble chat layout brings the Android app interface in line with those on desktop and iPhone. Skype is also rolling out a feature that will enlarge and animate your emoji when it is the only thing you send in a message.

Skype is adding a few other improvements, including support for Android Auto:

  • Catching up on an active conversation is now easier; chat will no longer auto-scroll to the latest as new messages come in.
  • Now you can change and view avatars for all of your group chats; just use the "Participants" option in a group chat to get started.
  • After signing out, you will now need to re-enter user name and password to sign in again. This will make it easier on those of you who use multiple accounts.

Skype 5.3 is currently rolling out on the Google Play Store. Skype has recently updated their Qik video messaging app, adding new video effects, including some inspired by Minecraft.
