What if I had rooted using the old version that was pulled ?

weehooherod says:

If you rooted with the old Unrevoked 3.2 that was pulled you are fine, using the new version will do absolutely nothing different. It simply wasn't working for some people so it needed to be fixed.

ricketkm says:

Ok good thank you...

VDub2174 says:

Finally!! Can't wait to have root again.

jaydee15 says:

Yeeessss I can finally root...been waiting for this

Blah says:

I figure these phones won't be getting any new substantial OS updates from now on so if you didn't want to root due to upcoming OTAs, you're probably safe now.

I wonder if someone will make a quality Gingerbread ROM for the Incredible once it's out.

weehooherod says:

Absolutely no doubt. There are even quality Froyo roms for phones as forgotten as the Samsung Moment.

grundyman says:

I'm currently rooted with 2.1 on the droid incredible. I manually installed 2.2 a few weeks ago... The phone would never boot , just kept looping. I had to take it back to 2.1 and root it all over again. I never got the over the air update either. Is there anyone else who's come across this same problem? If so, please tell me what you did to resolve the issue.

Android_Lee says:

It took a whopping 10 minutes! Droid Incredible running 2.2. Thanks for the software and instructions.

Oj_Mayo says:

I'm getting "main version is older update fail" on my Evo 2.2. (never hacked/rooted it,etc..)

Any idears? Some of the google results tell me I have to put other bootloaders on it,etc.. really?

Freshy#WN says:

How do I use this.. last time I was able to just download it straight on my phone from unrevoked website.. It's not working like that this time.. I thought this was a 'one click root'

VDub2174 says:

You need to download the approtiate files to your computer and run the program with your phone hooked up via USB.

droid 2? :/

mstein01 says:

This may be a stupid question, but how do I do this using Mac OSX? Ive been reading some of the forums, and everyone explains how to do it using windows and HBOOT. From what i understand, it should be the easiest on a Mac. Can anyone offer any insights as to how to get my EVO rooted?

screech113 says:

This guy shows how to root, and he is on a mac.

tim6253 says:

I have everything I need ready to go. My only question is, will I be able to get the Gingerbread update if I'm rooted? I have the EVO, and I'm sure it will get Gingerbread. Just don't want to mess that up.

frkoutboy says:

Can anyone help me? I can't find the answer anywhere :(

I keep getting this message:

"Validation Error: Backup CID is missing"

I can only get so far and then that message pops up. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

WIRELESS TETHER:

You have to have a certain version to work on the EVO w/Froyo. The version in the market will not work.
I have the apk for the correct version. I almost pulled my hair out trying to figure out why it wouldn't work. This one works flawlessly. Email me for the apk. tim6253@gmail.com

Judging by the first sentence, I see someone has been playing Mafia 2 for the PS3 or XBOX 360.

lol.

Does hdmi out still work with unrevoked 3.21?

scitch says:

And 4g?

wizof103 says:

Using EVO 4G with Froyo 2.2. When I go to Unrevoked the page on the internet to download, I try to down load Linux, it tells me that " The content is not supported on the phone. No application can be found to open this file. Do you still want to download it". I said yes and it is downloading. Will this work? IS there another app I need to install.

scitch says:

You have to download it from your pc, for whatever OS you are running.

tim6253 says:

Wizof103: You have to download and run the file from your pc, not the phone. From your pc browser, it will say windows download. Make sure you read and follow the instructions.

chopper221 says:

If you don't get the ota don't worry. most devs will update their roms.

Paladin says:

I guess it is just me but I really do not like messing around with the phones system. I hate worrying about things like this when updates come out, having to unroot, patch and wait for a new root that works with it, all the while hoping it does not cause any problems. Maybe it is because I get enough stress supporting a bunch of PC systems all day, I just do not need more headaches with my phone.

I want the same solution we had with the original Unrevoked on 2.1.

I simply ran that program and it granted the programs we wanted root access, no deep rooting was required, it just granted root access where needed.

I will keep waiting...

I went ahead and did this just this morning - haven't done unrevoked forever yet, but rooted in about 5 minutes, and immediately did a backup of my current ROM.

Uninstalled some apps with Titanium and tried Wireless tethering (worked).

Will likely try other ROMs now that I have the option of simply going back and forth between versions without the hassle of reloading/syncing/linking contacts again (on my current ROM, at least).

Thanks!!

btf6df says:

Had to try the method 4 times, but on the 5th try it worked. It might be a coincidence but it went through after I cleared my home settings back to "Sense" instead of "Launcherpro."

Done on an iMac with Evo 4G

pacman33068 says:

Does this root method wipe your phone?

bemick says:

OK I keep thinking about doing this.

I run unrevoked. Then run Rom manager and backup my ROM, I can return it to stock correct?

Once I do that I can receive official updates from Verizon again if any appear?

Can we flash roms using rom manager with the new version?

If I just go to unrevoked on my HTC EVO's browser, could i just download and run the root file and keep my current stock ROM without having to back up contacts and apps? That's what I'd like to do anyway. I really only want to root so that I can overclock and a few other apps and such.

tim6253 says:

clint: it has to be done from your pc. It does not wipe anything or change your rom. It just gives you root access. I'm not changing my rom. I just did it for root apps and to delete bloatware.

cornbread16 says:

ok i powered down into hboot and installed the new drivers

But what do i do next?

I enabled Debugging but hwen i connect to the pc i get nothing

can anyone whos done this method tell me whats next?

thanks

cornbread16 says:

Ok i got it

I had to let the drivers install

then i was able to root

happy as all can be because i have wifi tether

keith0810 says:

What am i doing wrong ... I have tried doing this both ways ... first time downloading to my windows pc, then running the program and no matter what I do it just keeps saying waiting for device (and yes I have tuned on USB Debugging and connect the phone to the pc with the usb cable)

second, tried downloading from the EVO and when I click on Start button a weird message pops up ... furgitabout it ... its being marked or something to that effect and not installs?

alp44 says:

I want to (yikes!) root my 2.2 Dinc. I'm sick of the crapware Vz loaded in w/ Froyo, (CityId, Skype) that I cannot remove. So I want to free my dinc and let it run wild through the Linux fields.

But here is my question, I have not only a warranty, but also a monthly extended warranty for anything (drops, water, etc.) Once I root w/ Unrevoked, is there a way to reverse the process if it needs repair, or replacement?

Thanks much, in advance.

So, here are the steps that worked well for my Incredible on MS Windows.

  • Install device drivers:
    1. See the fantastic instructions at http://www.unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php?id=public:windows_hboot_drive...
  • Install unrevoked
    1. Connect your phone to USB before starting the installer; don’t turn on USB debugging yet…
    2. Start the reflash_package.exe installer, the splash screen will appear and indicate that it’s waiting to see your phone.
    3. Now turn on USB debugging via Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Developer and the installer will recognize the phone.
    4. PROFIT!

nicrom72 says:

I did all of this a couple times and still just get "Waiting for device" No profit for me :(

EVO ROOTED Via Unrevoked forever with 2.2 latest upgrade. Use this version of Wifi Tether to install. Found it after messing around the net for hours. I thought this could help someone!

So if the ClockworkMod Recovery console shows up on the phone and wants me to do something, what do I do? Load the .zip file? It seems to get to that step rather easily but then it wants manual input on the phone side, that or the software isn't detecting it's on that step. Any help would be appreciated.

skyguy06 says:

When I run unrEVOked, it starts off working fine. I get to the screen where I have "press volume down to 'HBOOT USB', then press power"... I do this and it works fine. it does the "SD Checking" thing. Runs Pre-Boot seq... "Waiting for reboot...", then "Running root..." then "This was a triumph." Then it goes back to "Rebooting". Then it tells me to select the "HBOOT USB" and power again when bootloader starts. But bootloader never starts. My EVO reboots normally back to the main screen, and unrevoked just stays on the message to press volume down to "HBOOT USB", the press power, screen. The reflasher will not move from this message, and my EVO runs normally, but not rooted.

Please help! I've run it over and over again and each time same result.

I get the same thing happening to me. Did you ever get an answer for this?
