Motorola Mobility ordered to pay $10.2 million after losing Fujifilm patent lawsuit

The jury claimed that Motorola violated a Fujifilm patent related to converting color images to monochrome in its smartphones. Fujifilm filed the original lawsuit in 2012, claiming that Motorola was infringing on four patents. The San Francisco jury ruled this week that three of those violations were invalid.

Reuters received a quote from a Motorola spokesperson:

"We are pleased with the verdict related to three out of the four patents and are evaluating our options on the one patent on which we did not prevail," Motorola spokesman William Moss said in an email. A spokeswoman for Fujifilm did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In March, another US jury ruled that Motorola had infringed on a patent held by holding company Intellectual Ventures relating to multimedia messaging. Damages in that case have yet to be named.
