While it may not really seem all that interesting at first glance, today's announcement from Google regarding the discontinuation of Google Tags could potentially mean quite a bit to businesses who jumped on board to support the program. The trial, which began last year, has come to a close and despite the claim tens of thousands of businesses have used Tags Google has decided to shut it down, leaving those businesses with the task of finding alternative ways to promote themselves.
Google Tags may not have had widespread usage throughout mobile usage and Android; one has to wonder why Google just decided to shut Tags down as they did. If we had to guess, based solely on speculation -- they're likely (or at least hopefully) making way for NFC usage, which is bound to be more widespread in the coming months if Google has anything to say about it.
