Galaxy Tab 10.1

When we last read about the fate of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Australia, things looked pretty bleak.  Apple had succeeded in it's plan to innovate in the courtroom instead of the engineering department, and Samsung was blocked from selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the land down under by Aussie courts.  Today we read about an interesting twist on this whole mess, one that's good news for Android fans.  Samsung Electronics Australia has said in a statement that this particular legal action relates to a variant of the Tab 10.1 that they weren't planning on selling in Australia.  They went further, saying that the Tab 10.1 will be released in Australia "in the near future".

Samsung hasn't provided any additional details, and we're left wondering exactly what this means.  Could Samsung be planning on selling the 10.1v in Australia, or are there other variations that would place a Tab destined for Australia outside this legal finding?  We're not sure, and Samsung isn't saying.  We are sure, however, that no matter what Samsung does or which product gets released, Apple will funnel countless dollars towards getting it blocked.  It should be interesting, to say the least.

Letting Apple win?

Instead of changing the device, and thereby admitting that this tablet which looks nothing like an iPad is a knock-off, they should be fighting this tooth and nail thru th Aussie courts.

How many articles about the damn Galaxy Tab can people read?

One question please Jerry - What proportion of their famed 70 billion dollar stash are Apple willing to spend just suing other companies all over the world?

Thanks for keeping us posted on this, it's much appreciated. I went ahead and ordered one online after cursing apple for 24 hrs straight. I hope the local one isn't too much better! How could it be different?

Good that Samsung is not just sitting idle for Apple to keep their nonsense up. While I can't speak to the situation in the Auzzie courts, I think it's high time that Samsung use it's muscle as the supplier of Apple's screens & chips & lock down those patents so Apple can't get them elsewhere like we know they are trying to do. Then Samsung can turn the tables & raise the prices of those components on Apple.

This type of warfare can only be won by making your enemy bear a price they can't pay. Apple's core customers will eventually say no to their exorbitant prices. It's already happened in the education and creative design fields. Those were Mac staples for years. Now the PC is just about totally dominant there. I'm in graphic Design so I keep up with these things.

FYI The 10.1V has already been sold in Australia. Vodafone had an exclusive on it as a "limited edition". Lots of issues and little support for it, I never even considered buying one. It was an end-of-life device before it was even released.
