G1 Availability Depends on Whether you have 3G in your Area

Posted on Tuesday, Oct 21, 2008 by Brian Hart

I haven't used T-Mobile since... well... think VoiceStream days. Android and the G1 have me all a'twitter. Taking fair warning from this earlier blog post about G1 availability, I decided to pick up the phone and call my local T-Mobile stores to get the skinny.

Alas, my worst fears are confirmed. My market is 2-frickin-G. Thanks, T-Mobile! No wonder I'm with AT&T here. Anyway, I called two prominent T-Mobile stores close by and both had the same story -- since this market is non-3G, they will have G1's in the store for display and lusting only, but NONE will leave the store tomorrow. I can order one (and I'm sure they will gladly take my cash), but I'll have to wait at least a few days to get one "due to high demand."

So, if you are like me and haven't kept close tabs on T-Mobile in your area, pick up the phone and make a quick call. Or, head over to T-Mobile's site and see if your area is 3G. If it isn't, no G1 for you tomorrow. But you can look at 'em, touch them, covet them, etc. If you learn differently, make sure you post it in Comments!
