Facebook is making apps tailored for virtual reality

After acquiring virtual reality headset maker Oculus for $2 billion last year, Facebook is looking to cater to the medium by making virtual reality versions of its apps. Facebook's head of Product Chris Cox revealed plans regarding the social network's efforts in this segment in an interview at the Code/Media conference being held at Laguna Niguel, California.

Cox stated that virtual reality as a medium offers a new method of interaction:

"You realize, when you're in it, that you're looking at the future, and it's going to be awesome. When you're in Facebook, you're just sending around these bits of experience — a photo, a video, a thought", whereas with VR, you would be "sending a fuller picture."

The executive mentioned that users would be able to create virtual reality content, although he did not offer up any specifics on how they will be able to do so. A timeline was also not revealed for the launch of the virtual reality apps, with Cox stating that it is probably a while before they are available to consumers.

What would you guys like to see in a virtual reality-based version of Facebook?
