Galaxy Tab sales are 'quite smooth' not 'quite small'

14

It has been widely reported over the past couple days that Samsung Galaxy Tab sales have been "quite small," quoting Samsung exec Lee Young-hee during an earnings call. However, Young-hee didn't say "quite small," but rather "quite smooth." Bit of a difference there.

Here is what is being quoted:

“Well, your question was on sell-in and sell-out. As you heard, our sell-in was quite aggressive and this first quarterly result was quite, you know, fourth-quarter unit [figure] was around two million. Then, in terms of sell-out, we also believe it was quite small. We believe, as the introduction of new device, it was required to have consumers invest in the device. So therefore, even though sell-out wasn’t as fast as we expected, we still believe sell-out was quite OK.”

This is a case of one misinterpretation that spread like wildfire. We have included the audio snippet that has been quoted as well as a link to the entire call so you make you're own judgement. [Earnings call via Samsung Tomorrow]

Chad Johnson, aka Ochocinco, gets a Motorola Xoom

23

In one of the more bizarre stories of the new year, Chad Johnson (aka Ochocinco) has somehow gotten his hands on a Motorola Xoom. "How?" and "Why?" are questions that may never be answered, but we can assume it has something to do with him being, well, Chad Johnson. But he has been seen promoting Motorola devices before, so it's fairly safe to say he's on the payroll. Still, this would seem to give credence to the rumored Feb. 17 launch date and would would fit nicely with an announcement before the entire U.S. with the upcoming Super Bowl ad.

Until then, the rest of us will just have to sit and wait patiently -- and be jealous. Very, very jealous. [Twitter]

If you're been waiting to get your HTC Sense skin on an AT&T phone that's got more oomph than the Aria, AT&T has announced that they're making the Inspire 4G available on February 13th for $99 on a 2-year contract.

It'll run Android 2.2 under that shiny Sense UI, offer mobile hotspot, a 8-megapixel camera, that huge 4.3 inch screen we've come to know and love on HTC devices, feature an aluminum unibody design, and finally get those EVO 4G owners to respect and admire you. We know that last bit is what you're really worried about - so who's planning on picking one of these bad boys up on the 13th? AT&T's Press Release is after the break.

Archos 5 tablet half off on Amazon today

4

The Archos 5 has seen its price slashed from $500 down to $240 for today only over at Amazon. The tablet is packing a 500GB internal hard drive behind a 5-inch screen at 800x480 and a 800MHz processor. The 32GB flash storage version has also been discounted to $290 from $380. The major downside with either is that you are only going to be getting Android 1.6 Donut with this tablet and it lacks the Google apps (Android Market, Gmail, Google Maps & Navigation) right out of the box -- but there are ways to hack them onto the device.

Interested buyers should check out basic or full tech specs -- and ask around in our Archos forums -- before making a decision. If you decide to pull the trigger, Amazon eagerly awaits your credit card and shipping information. [Amazon]

LG confirms Optimus 3D coming at MWC

29

Well, cross that one off the list. Just hours after the LG Optimus 3D picture leaked out, LG confirmed that we'll indeed see it in a couple weeks at Mobile World Congress. Here's the presser, in its entirety:

SEOUL, Feb. 1, 2011 – At this year’s Mobile World Congress, LG will unveil the LG Optimus 3D, the world’s first 3D smartphone offering consumers a full 3D experience right in the palm of their hands.

The LG Optimus 3D addresses the lack of 3D content issue -- one of the biggest problems facing the 3D market -- with a complete platform for a one-of-a-kind experience on a mobile device. LG’s most advanced smartphone to date will feature a dual-lens camera for 3D recording, a glasses-free LCD panel for 3D viewing and diverse connectivity options such as HDMI and DLNA for 3D content sharing anytime, anywhere.

Further details and a live demo of the LG Optimus 3D will be offered at Booth #8B178 at MWC in Barcelona from February 14 to 17.

We're not entirely sure that a lack of content is really what's holding 3D mobile phones back (though it's certainly part of the chicken/egg equation). Guess we'll have to see for ourselves. We'll be there, of course. Stay tuned for the hands-ons and such.
