Evernote's new beta brings UI changes, speed improvements

14

Evernote, possibly the best thing to ever happen for disorganized people with multiple smartphones and computers, has announced a beta release of version 2.0.  I've been using Evernote a while, and this looks like it's going to be good!  Currently changed in the beta:

  • A new user interface that makes thing easier to sort, search and browse
  • Easier note creation
  • Multiple attachments
  • Dramatic speed increase (and they aren't blowing smoke with this one, it's fast now)
  • Offline notebook sync for premium users

They also have a laundry list of other changes to come, including more work on the above changes.  You can read the full change log, and download the beta at the source link.  You'll probably want to sync and uninstall your current version of Evernote first; they warn that you might need to and I had to uninstall/reinstall to get things running smoothly.  We've got some pics of the new UI and features after the break. Get the download at the source link. [Evernote] Thanks hertzi for the tip!

What happens when you apply an update

10
A question we're asked over and over is "When I get the Froyo/Gingerbread update, will it erase my phone?" The short answer is that it shouldn't. When you get an over-the-air (read: official) update, it's more of a surgical strike than a carpet bombing.

Cyanogen teases CyanogenMod ROM on T-Mobile G2

8

We all know there has been quite a bit of drama in regards to the development ability of the recently launched T-Mobile G2. For those who didn't buy into everything and return their device (which is probably most of you), Cyanogen has teased all of us with a video of CyanogenMod loading up on a G2. While this device has yet to be rooted, and no talks of any type of release time frame for this uber-hacked method (Says Cyanogen: "Booted CM on my G2 in the most horrible way possible. ... Basically what I'm doing is temprooting and rebooting all of userspace with CM on the sdcard"), this is a glimmer of hope for all of you sitting at home with your device patiently hoping for it to come. Full video after the break. [via Cyanogen]

Accessory review: Mobi Products cradle w/ spare battery slot for the Nexus One

12

Nexus One users are a peculiar lot.  If you use one, you know what I mean.  Sure, other, debateably better, Android phones have come and gone, but the N1 is hard to let go, and we're still in the market for great accessories like cases and cradles.  Since my order for an OEM Nexus One desktop stand is on perpetual back-order, I decided to give the Mobi Products cradle and spare battery charger a shot.  And I'm glad I did.  See why, after the break.

HTC Merge hands-on video

33

Want more on the HTC Merge on Verizon? We've got it. Want some solid hands-on time captured in moving pictures? We've got that, too. What we've got is hands-on video of the HTC Merge, the as yet still-unannounced Android 2.2 phone that'll (presumably) be coming to Verizon as soon, well, as soon as it's announced. (And note that the name "Merge" is still subject to change.)

You'll have to excuse any excited grins you see reflected in the Merge's screen. All things Bing notwithstanding, we're slightly over the moon about the Merge, which is likely to be Verizon's second world phone, when it's finally released. Let's all hold hands and watch the video after the break.

Verizon Galaxy Tab fact sheet leaks

26

With the rumors that Verizon may start selling the Samsung Galaxy S Tab as soon as Nov. 1 flying about, a lot of people will be wondering just how well the new 7-inch Android offering from Samsung measures up against the hugely popular Apple iPad.  While that's really something that you'll need to determine for yourself with some hands-on fondling of each, a leaked fact sheet from Verizon shows that Big Red's employees will be ready to answer all the questions the Tab will bring up.

While there's no launch date confirmation, we do get the short list of Verizon's pre-installed carrierware -- Backup Assist, My Verizon, VZ Navigator, and the VCast suite, including song ID.  And while it doesn't come right out and say it, we're all pretty sure that we'll see Bing! installed as well, but that's something that's easily taken care ofThanks, anonymous tipster!

T-Mobile G2 reportedly getting an OTA update to enable Wifi calling

11

Word on the street this morning is that a few people have gotten an over-the-air update on their T-Mobile G2 that enables Wifi calling, tethering and a sundry of other trinkets. Rollout doesn't seem widespread just yet, so we're likely in the very early stages here. But any update is a welcome update, especially one that brings this kind of functionality.

See the update yet? Sound off in our G2 forums. [XDA Developers, image via]
