Black Friday deals from Best Buy all about Android

18

With Black Friday well on its way, a lot of retailers are gearing up to drop prices. Best Buy is no different and this year they've decided to layout Android devices, some for only $1. Keep in mind though, new contracts will still apply to the purchases. Devices available? Check the list by carriers:

Sprint:

  • Samsung Transform - $69.99 with 2 year contract
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab - $549.99
  • LG Optimus S (Charcoal and Purple) - $1 with 2 year contract

Verizon:

  • HTC Droid Incredible - $1 with 2 year contract
  • Samsung Fascinate - $1 with 2 year contract
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab -$549.99

Great time to pick up a new Android device if you've been waiting. Surely more ads will leak out as well, so that you may plot your plan of attack. Check for additional images after the break.  Thanks nate1dawgg and jblank0! [BFAds]

Droid X spotted in recent episode of 'Community'

17

One of our forum members snagged this shot of Annie (Alison Brie) of NBC's "Community" showing off a picture of her lost pen on her Droid X.  This is the latest sighting in a string of TV shows featuring our favorite green android.

Android is popping up all over the place lately.  Anyone want to guess where we'll see it next? (My money is on "The Event.")  [via Android Central Forums] Thanks, Glenn!

T-Mobile introduces new plans in time for the holidays

23

If you are a T-Mobile customer and have been looking at other carriers in hopes of being able to reduce monthly costs and get more out of your plan, look no further. Just in time for the holidays T-Mobile will be rolling out two new plans that are aimed towards heavy users, and are very competitive to other carriers. These new options are called The Even More Promotional Plans, and will include the following two options:

  • Even More Individual 1,500 Talk + Text + Web plan for $79.99/mo.
  • Even More Family Plan 3,000 Talk + Text + Web Plan for $149.99/mo.

These plans will include unlimited 4G data, unlimited T-Mobile to T-Mobile calling as well as unlimited text messages. Compared to the competition at these price points, T-Mobile offers nearly double the amount of minutes monthly for the same pricing. These plans will require a new two-year contract, but for those who rely on their devices heavily, these plans are well worth signing a contract for.

Froyo available to Desire users on Virgin finally

2

After a long wait, Virgin Media customers sporting the HTC Desire will now start to receive Android 2.2 (Froyo). The OTA update will be gradually pushed out, so if you don't receive it immediatly, give it time.

Here's the announcement:

HTC Desire Android 2.2 Froyo Released 11/11/10

Hi I can confirm that we’ve started sending out the Froyo update as of 9am this morning, however this is only for customers on our Virgin specific firmware (1.23.351.1). Customers on the original firmware (1.15.405.4) will need an update to the 1.23.351.1 firmware first before they can install the Froyo update, but we expect this should be available in the next few days. I’ll post another update here once it goes live.

This is an FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) update which means that you will be prompted to download the update on their handset. We strongly recommend that you use a Wi-Fi connection to download the update. You’ll be asked if you want to back up your handset first, and we recommend this as well.

It has been a long wait, but Virgin customers will now be able to enjoy Froyo in all it's yumminess. [via EuroDroid]

Droid Incredible Case Review: Seidio Innocase Active

9

The Seidio Innocase Active for the HTC Droid Incredible is a unique case. Seidio has built a case that combines rubber polymer and hard skeleton, to create a protective but elegant case -- all while accommodating the "active" lifestyle. Its unique build is what differentiates it from other cases out there.

When I first received this case to review, I was a bit confused. I said to myself, "Did they package this case wrong? Why is there two cases?" After realizing what was going on, I immediately began to appreciate the design. Let me start off with the under part of the overall case -- the rubber polymer. The rubber is very bendable and squishy, but hugs the DInc's form factor well. It almost could serve as a case in and of itself. The rubber under layer, is designed to collect the shock and soften the blow from drops -- or for some people, throws. But why would you throw your Android?

The outer layer is its shell -- kind of like a turtle. This outside skeleton has the same soft rubber feel as the Droid Incredible's stock battery door, but is cut to highlight and secure the edges of the Incredible. Once the rubber polymer is on, the shell can snap into place. The hard shell fits securely by inserting the left side of the Incredible first, by lining up the volume buttons. Though, when I first snapped it into place, I was a bit concerned that I would be crushing the corners. But once you see how it lines up, it makes sense.

The Seidio Innocase Active is designed for those who want a strong case that will protect the Droid Incredible from breaking from hard blows and high drops. If you happen to fall into this category, I highly suggest you head on over the Android Central Store and pick this one up. For you "active" folks out there, the case will cost you $29.95.

Cyanogen Mod 6.1 ROM for T-Mobile G2 -- Done!

0

Been waiting for this on the T-Mobile G2? I'm positive some of you out there have been. The above Tweet pretty much says it all.  As noted on his Twitter account, the update is done but some cleanup does need to take place before it will be made available specifically, the camera portion to ensure it doesn't break on other devices. When it will be ready to roll out remains unsaid, but we're patient folks. Ok, maybe we're not. But, we know better than to be asking for an ETA. Got your devices in hand, ready for when this drops?
