HTC ThunderBolt case review: Seidio CONVERT Combo

4

I hate making decisions. I'm one of those people that when given the choice between hard ice cream and soft-serve, I have a panic attack. I love all ice cream! How is someone supposed to make that choice? So whenever there's an opportunity for me to choose “both” instead of one or the other, I jump on it. No, this isn't an advertisement for Dairy Queen. This is a review of the Seidio CONVERT Combo for the HTC Thunderbolt. Why choose between hard and soft when you could have both?

Let's break it down, after the break.

Peggle now available on Android, free on Amazon today

31

PopCap's super-popular game Peggle is now available on Android, first launching exclusively on the Amazon App Store. What's even better is that it is Amazon's Free App of the Day today, cutting the $2.99 price tag.

If you don't know Peggle, it's a highly addictive game where the user has to shoot pegs with a limited number of balls to clear levels and game points.

It has been available on other platforms for quite some time and Android users can finally join in on the fun.

Here are some helpful hints from the PopCap team on their Amazon page:

  • Try to hit the purple pegs in as many of your shots as possible (they're 50 times more valuable than the blue pegs)
  • Clear all the pegs on the board to guarantee 100,000 points
  • If the going gets tough, hit one peg at a time and land each shot in the Free Ball Bucket

The game is a large download at 74 MB and requires a WiFi-only download. Again, it's free today, so go get it!

HTC EVO 3D user guide now available from Sprint [from the forums]

10

The HTC EVO 3D user guide has been made available by Sprint for everyone interested in one of the Summer's hottest devices.  It checks in at 315 pages, and will tell you everything you ever wanted to know about operating and enjoying the EVO 3D and Sense 3.0, and even you seasoned Android veterans should take a peek if you're grabbing one of these babies come Friday.

Maybe it will never top Oprah's book list, but we need something to pass the time until we can get our greasy hands all over the 4.3 inches of glass, and I can promise it doesn't end with the butler having done it.  Grab it from the source link.

HTC ChaCha gets caught with AT&T branding

9

We've seen it sitting in the FCC with AT&T's 3G bands on board, so it only makes sense that we're now seeing the HTC ChaCha show up with some AT&T branding as well. Still now word on when the Facebook phone will get an official release but if you look for some clues in the photos you can see the date shows the Mobile World Congress announcement and next to it, July 17. Take from that what you will.

HTC EVO 3D now available for pre-order if you're a premier customer

73

The HTC EVO 3D can now be pre-ordered by Sprint premier customers directly from the Sprint website.  The latest and greatest from Sprint will cost you $199 with a new or renewed two year agreement, which seems like a fair price for the high performance that oozes out of that thing.  Check out our initial review and see for yourself.

Late last night when the pre-order went live, the Sprint website was getting hammered by buyers and lookers alike, so interest seems to be as high as anticipated.  Ordering early and direct from Sprint might not be a bad idea if you're able.  The rest of us will just have to wait until the stroke of midnight a few days from now.  And here's hoping for overnight shipping!

Droid Incredible 2 gets S-OFF treatment

10

Youtube link for mobile viewing

The Droid Incredible 2 has been on plenty of developers' hit lists since its release. But until now, the full potential of the device has never been unleashed. Now, thanks to the AlphaRev Team, it can be unlocked, perma-rooted and is now ready for custom ROM's as soon as ROM cookers can get some together. The device isn't officially on the supported device list as of yet but, it will be soon now that this testing phase has been completed.

T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G review

49

The phone so nice, we're reviewing it twice

This is the HTC Sensation 4G. Look familiar? It should -- you likely just read Alex Dobie's excellent review of the European version, the HTC Sensation. So we've now got it here in the states, on T-Mobile. And that's where the "4G" part comes in. This one has access to T-Mobile (USA's) HSPA+ network, meaning faster data speeds.

The Sensation 4G also brings along the latest version of HTC Sense, along with Android 2.3.3. That's Gingerbread, folks.

We're going to take a slightly different look here at the Sensation 4G for our second time around. Less clinical, more colorful. Again, go back and check out Alex's HTC Sensation review. It's a must-read. As for me? I'm smitten. And it's going to show.

New GGTracker Trojan imitates Android Market to lure you in

28

Have a good, close look at the image above.  That's how the latest piece of malware will be trying to trick you into installing it -- by trying to get you to believe you're at the Android Market.  The malware is called GGTracker, and it will try to sign you up for premium text messaging, leading to extra charges on your cell phone bill.

The people over at Lookout came across it, and wanted to be sure we all share the not-so-good news about how this one operates.  It happens when you click a malicious in-app advertisement -- your browser opens to the URL in the image, looking just like the Market, in hopes that you'll install the fake (in this case a Battery Saver app) application.  Also spotted was a version that claims to be an adult app (com.space.sexypic).  After you click to install it, you're directed to install via the download notification.  For now, it doesn't appear that this one is in the Android Market -- which means it might stay around for a while.

There are three easy ways to prevent this:

  1. Disable sideloading completely (or use AT&T as your carrier -- zing!)
  2. Use Lookout premium's Safe Browsing feature
  3. Pay attention to what's happening.  The Android Market will never open in your browser.  You'll also never be prompted to manually download an app from the Android Market.

This may be a no-brainer to many of us, but be sure to make your not-so-Android-savvy friends and family know.  This comes with the territory folks.  Combine popularity with the ability to install any apps you like, and there's bound to be an ^&$#*@! or two out there.  It's no fun for anyone, but I'll still take it over the alternative.

Cut the Rope for Android coming Friday

24

Might it finally be here? Might Cut the Rope finally be released for Android? If the CTRAndroid Twitter account -- newly created and pinging the hell out of the Android blogs -- is any indication, we could well see it on Friday, folks.

Question is, is it teasing the Android Market (while at the same time mistakenly calling it an App Store), or is it headed to the Amazon Appstore? Either one's likely, though the latter has been scoring some nice exclusives of late. Guess we'll find out in a few days.
