iOnRoad augmented reality driving assistant app for Android

7

Instead of capitulating to the National Transportation Safety Board recommended, iOnRoad by Picitup wants to turn the tables and show how mobile technology can keep you safe and sound on the highways. iOnRoad uses the live camera stream and image detection to monitor for tailgating, cars slowing ahead of you, or lane drift, and sends visual and audio alerts to get you back to the proper distance, speed, and lane where you belong.

iOnRoad works with any Android device with a 1GHz processor running Froyo or better, and features a big, easy to tap interface to minimize control issues while driving. Check out the video above for our live interview from CES 2012 with Pictitup CEO, Alon Atsmon.

Hands-on with the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note

22

The Samsung Galaxy Note is something we have seen before, heck we even reviewed it, but today AT&T announced that they will be releasing the device, and it will run on their 4G LTE network. Naturally we had to check it out, again, and see what it was all about. The device is huge, like really really big, and super thin to the point we wonder where they put the internals. Sporting a 5.3-inch HD SuperAMOLED display with quality that is out of this world. Samsung has of course gone ahead and skinned it with TouchWiz, but that does not seem to affect the performance or slow the device down.

A really cool feature here is the S Pen which is included with the device and is similar to a stylus but not to be mistaken for just a stylus. The pen also has a button on it which basically takes a screen cap of what is on the screen and allows you to then edit it and have some fun. If you like big things, and have big hands, and big pockets, the Samsung Galaxy Note may just be your very own next AT&T device. Hit the break for some more images, and check back later for some hands on video!

Samsung Mobile announces the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 for Verizon

7

When it comes to tablets, Samsung isn't exactly new to the market.  However, this time around, they're bringing a little something to the table in cooperation with Verizon Wireless that they are hoping will stand out among the rest of the crowd. Although it's not exactly anything brand new, it's the same device that was announced at IFA in Berlin.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 will be packing a Super AMOLED Plus display with 1280x800 resolution, a 1.4 GHz dual-core processor along with a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera featuring LED flash and capable of 720p playback (1080p playback through HDMI dock or adapter).  A 2-megapixel front facing camera for video chat, 16GB of storage, and connected through Verizon's 4G LTE round out this device.

If you're concerned about thickness and weight, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 measures just 7.9 millimeters thin and weighs only 340 grams. Samsung and Verizon have plenty of accessories already lined up for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 such as a keyboard dock, multimedia dock, bookcase covers and plenty of HDMI adapters if using Wi-Fi Direct or AllShare isn't good enough for you.  Full press release is past the break for you all, however -- you find it void of any pricing or launch date details outside of it being available in the coming weeks.

Hands-on with the Pantech Burst

7

Today AT&T announced a whole slew of Android devices, but one that really stuck out was the Pantech Burst. It's a 4G LTE device that will launch with an on contract price of only $50. Now you may be thinking you will get what you pay for on that, but fear not, you will be pleasantly surprised with this device.  Featuring a 4-inch display and powered by a 1.2GHz processor, the device keeps up with most other devices.

Running the Pantech skin we have seen before on the Pantech Breakout, they have updated the lockscreen giving quick and easy access to five icons as well as the unlock key, making a total of six. The device does run Android 2.3, and we are unsure of whether it will be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich. With a great price point, and solid hardware being powered by AT&T's 4G LTE network it looks like Pantech is looking to move through these devices. Hit the break check out some more images, and stay tuned for a video walk through.
