How to link your bank account to Google Wallet

Google Wallet makes it easy to use your bank account to pay — here's how to set it up

ACU — Google Wallet Google Wallet, as our very own Phil says, "was born from the idea that it should be easy to pay for things with your phone." Google Wallet does make that pretty easy, especially when you have your bank account linked to it.

I think of Google Wallet as acting like a debit or credit card sometimes, at least in the sense that it allows you to send and receive money to and from other businesses and individuals. It particularly acts this way if you transfer money to and from your Google Wallet Balance, which allows you to make purchases from some brick and mortar retailers that accept Google Wallet "tap and pay". A good number of online retailers also accept Google Wallet. All are made possible with your bank account linked to Google Wallet.

Here's what you need to do to set things up.

The first weekend with Philips Hue

22
Philips Hue

Over the weekend I finally acquired something that has been on my 'want' list for some time now - A Philips Hue starter set. To this day I couldn't put in words exactly why I've always wanted some, and I don't think I'd be able to say anything after a year, two years using them.

Perhaps it's just the nerdy side of me. Another toy to play with, something else to connect to my phone. Smart home products fascinate me but I'm still yet to really translate that into actual use. Hue is such an insanely simple to use product that its appeal can go far beyond nerds. I suppose that's the bigger picture for products like this, but the past few days has been a lot of fun.

HTC's next smartphone might surprise us with some high-powered specs. In a post on Chinese microblogging site Weibo, HTC says that they will have the world's first octa-core 64-bit smartphone. The current HTC flagship, the One M8 (available in both Android and Windows Phone flavors) packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, a 32-bit chip with a measly four cores clocked at 2.3Ghz. An eight-core 64-bit chip? That would be new.

LastPass update moves to remove PC dependency entirely

25
LastPass

The folks at LastPass are pushing a big update to Android devices today, with long-term plans to make sure your smartphone or tablet can be standalone LastPass systems with all of the same features as the PC version of the service.

Password managers are one of those things that you either rely on entirely or just don't bother with. We live in a world where password rules can be more than a little crazy, and it seems like every other week there's a email sitting in our inboxes from a company announcing a security breach. It has never been more important for your personal security to be taken seriously, and unfortunately that includes having many different passwords for many different services. LastPass is one of several services that tries to make this easier on you by offering to generate secure passwords and storing those passwords in a way that can be securely accessed by you from just about anywhere.

We sat down recently with LastPass CEO Joe Siegrist to talk about the differences between the Android version of LastPass and the Desktop client, and what is being done to decrease the feature gap between the two.
