Google to stream developer conference keynotes, some sessions

0

Not able to attend this year's Google IO conference? (Gasp, it's in a month!) No worries, as the keynotes will be streamed live (just like last year), and big G's tossing in some of the more major sessions as well. Pretty good deal, 'cept you won't be able to hang out with me and Jerry.

And if you're a developer and are going, el Goog's asking that you plant that cool HTML5 button you see above (hover over it) somewhere on your website.  [Google]

Motorola Xoom accessory review: Belkin Grip Sleeve

5

If you're going to do any light traveling with your Motorola Xoom, check out the Belkin Grip Sleeve. It's more than just a basic sleeve. Along with the durable neoprene (think wetsuit), it's got a textured surface so you don't lose your grip while holding it. (Thus the name.)

The sleeve sports a dual-zipper closure, is lightweight, and you can wash it off with soap and water. The inside is plenty soft, and it's not going to scratch your Xoom. It's also loose enough to allow you to store a few papers inside, too.

All in all, it's a simple way to protect and carry your Motorola Xoom. The Belkin Grip Sleeve is available now for $37.95 from the Android Central Store. We've got more pictures after the break.

Samsung Droid Charge shows up in Verizon promo material

10

Back at CES we first caught wind of the nameless Verizon device, which we later found out was the Samsung Droid Charge, and it has now made an official appearance in some Verizon promotional material. There's also a multimedia desktop charger, which serves as a media player and a speakerphone, and it has a spare battery charger slot, which is pretty sweet. While this isn't as great as a release date, it is further proof that the device could be coming sooner then later. [Engadget]

Toshiba Android tablet 'coming soon' at Best buy

23

With PC makers getting into the Android Tablet game, it is a given that Toshiba would give us their spin on a high-quality Android tablet.  While this isn't the first time we've seen it on the web, the coming soon page at Best Buy's site is encouraging.  When we first saw it in January at CES 2011, it was running Froyo, but the hardware and the fact that Toshiba let us know they had no plans to customize the OS got us the most excited.

The specs are just what you would expect for a high-end Honeycomb tablet:

  • Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor
  • 10.1 inch High-definition wide view backlit LED display
  • 2 MP front camera, 5 MP rear
  • Wireless b/g/n
  • HDMI out
  • One full size USB port, one mini-USB port (yes, the specs say mini-USB)
  • Android 3.0

We know from our time with it at CES that the display is 1280x800 at 16:10, and Toshiba's "resolution plus" will allow video upscaling on the device.

My future purchase plans just got more difficult. [Best Buy] Thanks, dcabuckeye!

Is the Verizon HTC Merge happening? 'Cause it's on its website

17

That's kind of the big question, isn't it. We're now six months removed from our exclusive hands-on with the Verizon-branded HTC Merge. And in that time, it's appeared all but left for dead, only two re-emerge on a couple of regional carriers -- Alltel and Cellular South.

But the big question remains, will we ever see it on Verizon?

Stories have been floating around this week of new "first press shots" of a Verizon-branded Merge.  We'd like to think they're new. But seeing as how Verizon was ramping up the Merge so long ago, that's pretty doubtful.

And we'll throw into the mix that we've recently heard that even Verizon still hadn't made up its mind whether it is going to release the Merge.

Oh, but it gets even more complicated. Because on Verizon's website, in a section for free text alerts is pictured ... wait for it ... the Merge. That's it above.

So after all that, what do we know? Maybe it's coming, and maybe it's not. Hang in there, folks. [via rosser in the Android Central Forums]
