Droid Bionic shows up on Motorola's store page

28

The Droid Bionic has made an appearance on Motorola's store page, which would be far more exciting if it had a "Buy now!" button or something. But, alas, it doesn't, and so what we have is yet another tease for the phone that was announced in January (see our initial hands-on) before being sent back to the drawing board for release sometime in September.

A bright side here is that you can get a clean look at the official renders. (Ed. note: We blew them up a tad here if you click for the full resolution.) And it's with little surprise that we once again see that it's thicker than a Droid X, with a noticeable hump for the camera. LTE's like that (for now), folks.

HTC Holiday caught again on camera, 4.5 inches of LTE heading for AT&T

32

Well lookie here, it's the HTC Holiday, showing up a little less broken that the last time we saw it.  The folks at Engadget got their hands on some pictures and the specs, and it certainly looks like another home run by HTC.  Packing a 4.5 inch qHD display, 1.2GHz CPU (of the dual-core variety, natch) and a full Gigabyte of RAM, look for it to ship with Android 2.3.4 and Sense 3.0.  And we can't forget the LTE radio, which should make this AT&T's first handset using the shiny new 4G network.  While they can't confirm, there's a better than average chance this one will get the name "Waikiki" hung on it at launch -- surf's up!

AT&T, meet HTC.  You guys should have got together like this a long time ago.  Check the source link for the picture gallery.

Sony Tablet S2 to be called Tablet P when it launches?

3

As we know it, devices can and often do go through many name changes before they actually reach consumers. In some case, the code names given to devices are much cooler then what they actually release under. The case of the Sony Tablet S2 fits into this section now that the device is suggested to be launching as the Tablet P.  Still no word on pricing for the 4G enabled, NVIDIA Tegra 2 powered Tablet P but that should be arriving soon. However, we're still thinking Sony should have left it as the Sony Tablet S2 -- or hit up Kyocera to use their Echo branding since, it just looks like a large Kyocera Echo.

Android Game Review: Sheep Impact

3

YouTube link for mobile viewing

This one's a simple one, but still worth your time. It's called Sheep Impact, and the whole premise of the game is that you fly around in a hot air balloon, rescuing sheep that are inexplicably strapped to dynamite.

Sheep Impact is one of those "ascend when you touch the screen" games, so essentially, you're trying to time to descent correctly so you can pick up the sheep (done by running into them) and then ascending before you crash into anything. It's exactly what you'd expect if you played any games in this genre, so you know what you're getting.

Graphically, Sheep Impact is simple but cutesy, if I'm allowed to say that. Colors are bright and sheep look, well, like sheep. Because of the simple graphics, the game hums along nicely on my EVO 3D, but I'd imagine you'd still get great performance on lower spec'd phones.

Scoring is done via a medal system, so nabbing all the sheep nets you a gold medal. Miss one (or some), you get a silver, so on and so forth. Grabbing the coveted gold becomes more difficult as you venture into the later levels, because more and more sheep keep getting tacked on to your list to rescue.

Sheep Impact is 99 cents in the Android Market. If you're looking for a fair bit of fun and this game is your style, we've got download links after the break.

Eric Schmidt: Google is 'absolutely committed' to Google TV, expect more partners soon

10

In Edinburgh, Scotland today Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt told listeners at a television festival that Google is fully committed to continuing and expanding the Google TV project, both with new content providers as well as new hardware OEMs.

We're absolutely committed to staying, to improving Google TV. I believe that they're [Sony and Logitech] both going to be on board and I believe there are many more coming. Wait shortly for an announcement.

Schmidt also said Friday that he expects Google TV to launch in Europe early next year, hopefully without the issues they have seen with the US televisions networks.  Google is currently in talks with UK television providers, trying to keep the current stalemate they have with NBC, CBS, and ABC regarding content from happening for viewers in the UK.

Additionally, the questions about Motorola and their set-top box division arose, and Schmidt said that he could not talk about those plans in detail at the moment, but they had "interesting ideas" about how it could help Google TV.

It looks like the questions everyone was asking were addressed, and Google is actually going to try the "big push" with Google TV.  Bring it, I say.

Motorola FIRE looks hot in new promotional video

11

If this week's announcement of the Motorola FIRE set your curiosity ablaze, feast your eyes on this new promo video in which the UK-bound device struts its stuff. You'll have to wait until the end of September to grab one, but if you're really burning up, this should hold you over at least for a while. To spare you all from more lame fire puns (I've got a ton), I'll let the video do the talking. Enjoy.

'HTC Bliss' software screenshots emerge

16

We've seen a couple of rumors surfacing over the past month or so surrounding the HTC Bliss, an upcoming Android smartphone said to be geared towards women. Now the first purported screenshots of the phone's software have emerged on Chinese site xda.cn, showing what seems to be a UI based on Sense 3.0, but with a few tweaks here and there. These include new widgets, a slightly different app drawer and a redesigned dock along the bottom of the home screen.

Many sites, including the source, are identifying this as HTC Sense 3.5, however there's no evidence provided to support this. Our money is on HTC continuing to use the tried and true Sense layout in most future phones. If anything, we'd say the Bliss software is more likely a fork (offshoot) of Sense 3.0, similar to what we've seen on the T-Mobile's MyTouch 4G Slide. Let us know what you think, though -- there are more shots over at the source link to help you make up your mind.

Acer Iconia A500 3.2 update now landing September 10th

19

The 3.2 update for the Iconia A500 promised for 25th August never showed, but Acer haven't left us out in the cold instead going public on why the date slipped.

Posting on the Acer Malaysia Facebook page, the update now looks set to land on September 10th. Apparently they've been suffering some issues with the GPS settings, so thought better to put the update back than let it out in the wild with bugs.

Updates are always welcome, so hopefully Acer will manage to work out all the kinks before September 10th. They have promised to update earlier if there's any news, but for now lets just take what they're offering.

HTC Vigor pictures leaked, looks like the Droid Incredible's big brother

67

Pictures of what appears to be the HTC Vigor have been leaked out, giving another good look at the phone.  While the specs are all still a rumor, we can see a dual LED flash and a front facing camera on the big screen, as well as a rubberized version of the Droid Incredible's stepped back plate.  Of course the phone will run HTC Sense, and we assume it will be version 3.  The two biggest questions -- will it have an LTE radio, and when will we see it, are still officially unanswered.  With the rumored specs of a 1.5GHz dual-core Cortex A8 and a full gig of RAM, knowing that this one should be headed to Verizon soon will help relieve a little of the sting of not getting the Galaxy S II.  We can't wait to see it.  Hit the jump for another pic.
