Cartoon Network Video app now on Android

22

I love cartoons.  No, seriously, I'm like a big kid when it comes to some cartoons, and I've pretty much just been waiting for the Cartoon Network to release their Android app. Finally, it has arrived -- yes, Cartoon Network Video is free to download and features both full show episodes and clips streamed right to your Android smartphone.

In addition to being able to stream clips from such shows as Adventure Time, Regular Show, Ben 10, Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated, Destroy Build Destroy, and Generator Rex you can also pull up the Cartoon Network TV schedule so you know when to tune into any of you -- or your kids favorite shows.  Download link can be found past the break for all you cartoon fans out there.

Note that while you can install the CN app on a tablet, it looks pretty crappy. Stick to smartphones for now.

HTC Lead headed to AT&T, system dump leaked

14

We're still taking in all of the leaks that have popped up in the past day or two but one that stands out currently is the system dump for the upcoming HTC Lead. According to the information that can be stripped out of the dump, this device is starting to sound similar to the HTC Inspire 4G with some more horsepower:

  • Android 2.3.4
  • 768MB RAM
  • 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi
  • 5MP camera on the back
  • 4.3" WVGA (800×480) display
  • Dual-core 1.2GHz processor (MSM8660)

Any case, not a whole lot more can be derived from the system dump at this point -- unless some developers are willing to dig through it for more. Either way though, still nice to see some new devices headed to AT&T. Let's just hope they make sure sideloading is enabled on newer devices.

Samsung Exhibit 4G hits T-Mobile June 8

4

We first heard about the Samsung Exhibit 4G a few weeks ago and it looks like we'll be seeing the mid-range offering hitting T-Mobile shelves on June 8. Dealer price is set at $325, but you'll be paying less (and note the $50 rebate).

The Exhibit 4G features a 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 3MP rear camera, VGA front-facing camera and is also HSPA+ capable; it will be able to reach speeds exceeding 21mbps.

June 8 looks to be a big day for T-Mobile as we will see the release of the Samsung Exhibit 4G, HTC Sensation 4G and Samsung Gravity Touch 2.

The Exhibit provides great value for someone who doesn't want to spend the money to get the Sensation. It's a solid device and will come at an affordable price on June 8.

Plants vs. Zombies hits Amazon Appstore soon; Chuzzle drops this week

28

PopCap is finally bringing its quirky, bright colored games to Android. The Seattle based company has signed an exclusive agreement with Amazon to bring its first Android games to the Amazon Appstore. Leading the launch will be the googly-eyed furballs game, Chuzzle. And at the end of the month, the fan-favorite Plants vs. Zombies will be made available. Both games will be featured as the "App of the Day" in the Amazon Appstore and will be free of charge those days. After that, the games will be priced at $2.99 each.

Now here's where it's a little vague: there is no word on whether this is a timed exclusive or whether a permanent agreement. We're pretty sure PopCap wants to put these and others in the Android Market, too. Especially since Plants vs. Zombies has been in the top ten of the iTunes App Store since its launch months ago. Either way, we can't wait to play all the great PopCap games on our Android devices. Press release after the break.

Gingerbread update now rolling out to unbranded UK Desire HD and Incredible S

11

Reports from various forums are confirming that the Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates for unbranded British HTC Desire HD's and Incredible S's are now rolling out to users, just as HTC promised last week. On the Desire HD, the update will also bring users up to HTC Sense 2.1, which includes a couple of new features like a quick settings tab in the notification area and a slightly redesigned app drawer.

This should also be good news for owners of the Inspire 4G and Droid Incredible 2. With these devices' European cousins now running Android 2.3, hopefully it won't be long before they get their own taste of Gingerbread.

If you've got an unbranded Desire HD or Incredible S that was purchased in the UK, head on over to Settings -> About Phone -> System Software Updates to grab the new firmware. If your phone is carrier-branded, you'll have to wait just a little while longer for your network to approve the update.

AT&T pushing updates to enable sideloading on older phones

54

Change paves way for Amazon Appstore downloads

It's a Christmas miracle, folks! Starting today, AT&T is pushing updates to select Android phones that will enable non-market installations -- app sideloading. And, more important, it means the Amazon Appstore will work on AT&T phones.

Who are the lucky ones? If you've got an HTC Inspire 4G or Aria, or a Samsung Captivate, keep an eye out for the update -- those are Froyo devices, if that helps. The new Samsung Infuse 4G already has sideloading enabled.

Good on AT&T for finally fixing this. We'd like to think it was our little editorial that did it, but more likely it was because the Amazon Appstore wasn't working (it sideloads apps, and we can't believe they didn't work that out beforehand). but whatever the reason, we'll take it.
