Get your Vizio tablet screen protector at Walmart, while you wait for your Vizio tablet

9

We already know that Walmart is going to be stocking the upcoming Vizio 8-inch tablet in their stores, but seeing accessories already on the shelf is always welcomed.  In this case, you can grab the Griffin screenkit (which appears to be a screen protector and a microfiber cloth) for the Vizio tablet and look lovingly at it while you're waiting for the tablet itself to turn up in the next aisle.  Of course if you're Blake Griffin, you probably have these on your own shelf, next to your own Vizio tablet.

0

We've pushed a lot of news and reviews this week, and even managed to find time for an epic podcast and now we're finally here at the weekend where we can move at a little slower pace. Not much mind you but it's a little slower and we'll take it. If you've not done so yet this evening, take a rip through the Android Central forums and see what's happening and don't be afraid to lend a helping hand to those who may need it.

Crackle streaming video app returns to the Android Market

37

If anyone happens to remember October of last year, a new streaming video app appeared in the Android Market called Crackle. It was a subscription based service which offered some video for free but the premium videos were to cost you $4.99/month. It ended up being there for quite some time and then it all of a sudden it disappeared. We're not exactly sure as to why but we are glad to see it come back and this time around it's totally free for end users.

You'll need a device running at least Android 2.2 and Flash in order to watch the full-length TV shows and movies offered by Crackle but if you live in US, Canada, United Kingdom or Australia you're pretty much good to go. The only other caveat to the app right now is the fact it's not suited for tablets as of yet but we're hoping that will be addressed in a future update. Hit the break for the download link -- once you're up and running watching Ghostbusters, it'll all be worth it.

Some Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 units being sold with the bootloader already unlocked?

17

If you just picked up your shiny new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 today, you might want to reboot it.  It appears that some of the retail units are being shipped with a familiar bootsplash screen featuring the unlocked bootloader icon.  All models seem to be included, though early reports were all from the 32 GB Gray-backed edition.

Lots of people are looking at this, and so far there doesn't appear to be an easy way to get to any fastboot mode to check exactly what is going on.  If the bootloaders really are unlocked, it's a curse and a blessing -- it means easy hacking, but it also may affect Google movie rentals.  Our own Menno has a unit with the unlocked icon, so we'll be on top of the issue.  More when we know more.

2

Although all across the U.S. today folks have been snapping up Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1's like they are going out of style, those of us who live in Canada aren't quite there yet. However, we're not that far behind. Best Buy and sister company Future Shop are both now taking pre-orders for the sexy new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 -- buy in cost is on par with that of the U.S. meaning you'll be expected to pay $499 for the 16GB WiFi equipped version when it ships on the estimated date of July 22.

HTC Sense look-alike widgets grace Lebanese airport homepage

8

Fly the friendly skies with HTC Sense -- or at least check the time and weather at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport's website using a pretty familiar set of widgets.  The beautiful look pairs well with Lebanon's beautiful countryside, so it fits well, though we imagine that a particular corporation from across the globe won't see it that way.  Maybe they should scrap it, and buy a copy of Beautiful Widgets instead.

Android Quick App: Ninja Rush

0

I think everyone can agree there's a soft spot for ninjas in their heart, and if you can relate to this sentiment, Ninja Rush is a game you should consider checking out. It's one of those "run until you fall and die" games, but the graphics are nice, the gameplay is fun, and you're a ninja.

Ninja Rush definitely bears a resemblance to Robot Unicorn Attack, but I think any game in this genre would. Ninja rush does offer a few modifications on the stock "don't fall and dodge bad guys" formula commonly seen, though.

For starters, you don't need to just dodge enemies, as you're armed with an unlimited amount of shuriken to throw. You can actually amass a pretty large wall of pain in front of your ninja if you've got a quick thumb, and can switch between jumping and throwing shuriken without falling. There's also a Spider-Man-esque dynamic where, when the ground falls out from underneath you, tapping the screen doesn't jump, but tosses a rope up and swings your ninja from the ceiling.

Yes, there's still double jumping, but instead of a limited dash, swiping right on the screen has the ninja dash forward indefinitely, ramping up both the risk and the difficulty. Swiping left on the screen returns the ninja to his original running speed.

Perhaps one of the coolest aspects of the game is what I'm deeming the Super Ninja Shuriken Super Move. The SNSSM is activated when you pick up three of these floating shuriken icons over the course of your gameplay. Doing so turns the ninja into a full-body shuriken and dashes him forward, floating over all chasms and destroying all bad guys in his wake.

At the price of "completely free," the game does have a fairly unobtrusive ad in the top right corner, but that's a small price to pay, especially considering none of the action is happening where the ad is, so you're not even forced to navigate around it.

Download links and more pictures are after the break, and no, the screen doesn't tear like that when you're playing it.

It's called the Xoom 4G

60

You've got to be careful when you see unannounced devices in promo videos. It's as likely as not that what you see may just be some sort of mock-up, rather than some upcoming production device. But in the case of the new tablet video Verizon's popped up on YouTube, it's both.

We're told that the Honeycomb tablet you see above -- which looks a bit like the current Motorola Xoom -- is in fact the Motorola Xoom. Actually, it's the "Motorola Xoom 4G," and it's currently in testing with Verizon.

Exactly what's been tweaked on the Xoom 4G? Tough to say at this point. We're told it has working 4G LTE build in. And if we had to guess, we'll see something a tad slimmer and lighter -- and maybe with even a microSD card, though it wouldn't surprise us to see external storage on tablets go the way of the dinosaurs.

We've also been told that the Xoom 4G isn't a done deal yet. Perhaps tweaks aren't enough for Verizon? But apparently it was done enough for someone to slip it in a video, so there's that.

And what about the current Motorola Xoom, which is still waiting on the promised hardware upgrade to 4G LTE? We're told that's still in the books. But it's now about six months since the launch of the Xoom, and it's still looking stout compared to the new tablets from ASUS, Samsung, Acer and others.

Check out the video for yourself after the break, and thanks to everyone who sent it in.

Virgin Mobile Canada launching the HTC Sensation

5

If you weren't digging the fact of possibly having to sign a new contract with Bell in order to get your hands on an HTC Sensation when it arrives in Canada then I've got some great news for you depending on how you look at it. Virgin Mobile Canada has announced that they to will be releasing the HTC Sensation. That means you can likely pick this one up on a Virgin Tab agreement when it comes out but the bad news is of course -- your money will still go to Bell since they own Virgin Mobile in Canada.

New ThunderBolt radios leaks as we await the official update

8

While we continue to wait on the next update to the HTC ThunderBolt -- that's the one that's supposed to do something about the reboots --  another radio has leaked out. This one's MR2.5 (the last was MR2) and flashes the way radios tend to be flashed. If you're not sure how, better to stay away, for now. If you're the impatient type, however, hit the source link and get to downloading.
