Android Market on the web gets a books section

Looks like the Android Market got what some might refer to as a big upgrade, depending on your interest level in books. In what is surely a tie in to the Google Books eReader app, the Android Market now has a full and complete section for books available.
No telling if and when the mobile version of the Android Market will get it, but it being available in the web version shows that Google has a lot more coming for that portion of the Android Market. Hit the source link to check it out further. [Android Market]

Froyo coming to the HTC Aria tomorrow, says AT&T

AT&T has posted news on its Facebook fan page that the HTC Aria will be updating to Froyo (Android 2.2 -- remember it?) tomorrow. The little Android device was AT&T's second Android powered phone to enter their stores. Since then, consumers have been waiting to see if the Aria was going to be getting a Froyo update.
The Aria's newer second cousin, the Samsung Captivate, is expected to be getting Froyo today. From reading through the Facebook fan page comments, owners really mostly want the Captivate to update already. How about you guys? Are you still rolling with an HTC Aria?
AT&T has also posted a interview with Dante Martin, AT&T's Android Senior Project Manager. Video after the break! [Facebook] Thanks, Greg K!

Sprint, Samsung halt Epic 4G's Froyo update due to data, SD card issues

Rut ro. If you've been wondering why your Sprint Epic 4G hasn't yet received the over-the-air update to Froyo, it's because Sprint and Samsung have yanked it from the servers. Apparently a number of folks were having problems with data connectivity, or with the SD card -- or both. And while a hard-reset seemed to fix it, nobody wants to do that (Hi, mom!).
So, they pulled the update. Here's the official word:
There have been an increased number of calls into Care regarding issues with the Epic following the upgrade. As a result, the upgrade will not be pushed to more devices until a resolution for these issues is in place. The OTW update on the Samsung website will also be taken down.
Sprint and Samsung are actively working to correct these problems and release the update to all devices.
The issues being reported are related to data connectivity following the upgrade and SD card issues when attempting to access photos, music, etc. If you are experiencing these issues, a hard reset has been reported to resolve the problems. A hard reset will wipe out all the data on your device, so a backup should be done first.
That's no good, and let's hope Sprint and Sammy get their ducks in a row and get the update back up, pronto. [Sprint, via] More on the update in the Android Central Forums

MetroPCS hires Snoop 'DoGGGG' to help promote the 4G Samsung Indulge

MetroPCS has just launched an ... interesting ad campaign to promote its upcoming LTE-rocking Samsung Indulge. Snoop Dogg himself takes on a trio of personalities as possible matches for a woman on a dating show, each with more "G"s in his name - and thus is more attractive. Asked about "the 4 Gs" in his name, Snoop explains that "lately the speed of my hustle has increased exceptionally, and I've had to amp up my Gs to facilitate my needs." Honestly, we couldn't make this up if we tried. Catch the video past the break. [YouTube]

Samsung Galaxy S 4G gets torn down to reveal what it's made of

Just a mere day after we saw the Motorola Atrix 4G torn down to its naughty bits, we now get to have a good look at the Samsung Galaxy S 4G get the same treatment. The good folks at iFixit sacrificed one for science and came to a few conclusions about the device over all:
- Samsung KB100L00WM-A453 512 MB of DRAM, which also contains a 1 GHz Intrinsity Processor in a package-on-package configuration
- The front panel is adhered to the AMOLED display, so they must be replaced as one expensive unit
- Less-than-stellar fit of the front panel and chromed plastic accents can lead to cosmetic issues after long-term use.
- It turns out that Samsung tells no lie -- their structural framework IS made of magnesium! This helps make the device lighter.
Overall, iFixit gave the Samsung Galaxy S 4G a 6 out of 10 for it's cost effectiveness to repair. Had the display been easier to remove it would likely have scored the 9 out of 10 the Motorola Atrix 4G did as there are a lot of internal similarities there. [iFixit]
