Now that some pre-orders are getting filled and the EVO 4G LTE is in the hands of Android fans, it was just a matter of time before it got rooted. It's a pretty simple affair, using the same exploit as the Transformer Prime after the Ice Cream Sandwich update. It's pretty simple -- install drivers if needed, then run a small script. The end result is a rooted EVO, which makes us all warm and fuzzy inside. Of course since it's brand new there won't be much happening on the ROM and hacking front, but that will soon change.

As always, be careful and think about what you're planning on doing, because the developers can't be responsible for the things you might do. Now that you've been sufficiently warned, hit the link and check it out.

Traveling to new areas can be both fun and exciting but it also has the potential to be rather frustrating at times. If you're not familiar with the area you are going to you may not know the best places to stay, the best places to eat and the attractions around that you will want to take in. For such cases, TripAdvisor has released quite a few city guides in the past to help those in need find all those things when traveling and now, they've gone ahead and added 30 new cities to the mix bringing the grand total of cities offered to 50. In addition to the new city offerings, they've added some new features to the apps as well:

• Transit – Users can now view metro or subway stations on a map. Unique to City Guides, the “Nearby Station” feature helps travelers find the closest station to their current location, or to a particular restaurant, hotel, or attraction.
• TripIdeas - TripIdeas are customized itinerary recommendations based on popular travel themes, such as traveling with family, foodie destinations, and places off the beaten path. Each itinerary includes beautiful large photos for inspiration. Users can keep track of their favorite TripIdeas in their “Saves” list.
• Offline Map Update – Users can now fully customize their own maps. This feature displays saved destinations, metro stations, and any restaurants, hotels, and attractions of interest, to help travelers plan and have their perfect trip.

We heard that Best Buy was going to be handing out pre-orders of the HTC EVO 4G LTE today, and it's been whispered that Sprint would start delivering their own pre-orders today, and it looks like both happened as planned. There's EVOs-a-popping in the forums, and everyone seems pretty well pleased with the new gear from HTC and Sprint. There's a lot there to love, with that screen and the all new Krait SoC under the hood, and I expect that it won't be long before the tips and tricks threads start flowing like wine.

DLNA, or the Digital Living Network Alliance is an organization set up by Sony in 2003 that determines a universal set of rules and guidelines so devices can share digital media. The devices covered include computers, cameras, televisions, network storage devices, and of course cell phones. The guidelines are built from existing standards, but manufacturers have to pay to use them and have their device join the DLNA.

With DLNA devices, you can share video, music and pictures from a Digital Media Server (DMS) to your Android phone or tablet. A DMS could be your computer, a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device, a television or Blu-ray player, or even another Android device. Anything that has a DLNA server, or can have one installed will act as a DMS. Fun factoid: when a DLNA server is installed on a cell phone, tablet, or portable music player it's called a M-DMS -- the M stands for Mobile.

Once a DLNA server is in place, our Android phones usually have two functions -- to act as a Digital Media Player (M-DMP) or a Digital Media Controller (M-DMC). The player is easy enough to figure out, it finds content on a DLNA server and plays it back. A DMC will find content on a DLNA server, and push it to another connected player. For example, my television has a DLNA player, and my laptop has a server. With the right software, I could use my Android phone to find the content on my laptop and play it on my television. DLNA can really be fun if you have all the right equipment.

But chances are Android (and eventually other mobile devices) will be moving away from DLNA. With Ice Cream Sandwich, Wifi Direct is part of the operating system and has the potential to do everything DLNA can do, and more. We already have seen it replace DLNA streaming in the HTC One series with the Media Link HD receiver, which streams content from a Sense 4 device to a monitor with HDMI input. It uses native Wifi Direct, and by all accounts works really nicely. Or Samsung, who is using NFC to kick off a Wifi Direct session for fast data transfer on the Galaxy S III. We'll have to wait and see what manufacturers do with Wifi Direct, because having it built into the OS is a big plus -- even for a company like Samsung who makes millions of DLNA devices each year.

We're nearly halfway through the year, but things are just getting started for NVIDIA, general manager Mike Rayfield told analysts on Thursday afternoon.

NVIDIA has 30 devices planned for the year. So far, we've seen just two. Of those 30 devices, some 15 will be planned for sub-$200 pricing. That's certainly the sweet spot for impulse purchases.

NVIDIA's also looking to make inroads into the Chinese market, with 18 of those 30 tablets targeted for the Asian nation. By comparison, NVIDIA only released five devices in China in 2011, Rayfield said.

The big name to know for the rest of the year is Kai. That's the low-cost, high-performance system that NVIDIA is crowing about these days, and it's what will help bring prices down while keeping prices at a more affordable level. Will there be higher-performing tablets? Sure. But will they be $200?

The big question for those of us at the purchasing side of the equation is "When?". We'll see devices with Tegra 3+ later this year, with the "Wayne" and "Grey" generations. (And "Grey" is when we'll start to see Tegra and LTE data come together.) We'll likely hear more about that later this year, but we're not expecting any devices before spring 2013.

Given the state of Galaxy S III pre-release rumors, we're inclined to take this kind of thing with a pinch of salt. However, the latest leaked internal screen obtained by ​MobileSyrup​ indicates that Canadians may not have long to wait for Samsung's next big thing. The screen, which appears to show an ad for the phone on some of the leading Canadian carriers, suggests that the launch date may be June 20. However, it's worth remembering that even if this date is accurate now, plans can change, especially when you're coordinating a massive device launch across multiple networks.

What we know for certain is that the Galaxy S III will launch on all the major Canadian networks "this summer," and that it'll pack 4G LTE connectivity where available.

However things pan out in Canada, the Galaxy S III is due to launch in Europe next Wednesday, May 30. A U.S. launch is expected sometime in June. Want more Galaxy S III? Our wealth of launch day reports should have you covered.
