Inbox invites hit user inboxes

50
Inbox invites

Folks who are using Inbox — Google's new take on email management — just received a new item in their inbox — three invites to pass out to friends and family. Finding them is easy enough — just tap the icon to compose a message and you should see a golden ticket in the recents list. Tappa-tappa and you can enter an email address of the person you would like to invite.

We have no idea if those three people will immediately receive invites to share, or when the next round comes out. But for now, Inbox just grew by about 300-percent.

Sponsored by MetroPCS

With kids back in school and budgets tight, prepaid carriers are often the way to go for anyone with a smartphone. Instead of paying your monthly bill after having used your wireless service, you pay beforehand for a set bucket of data.

There are compromises to be made when signing up for a prepaid carrier, but for the most part, the added flexibility makes it all worth while. Conditions and service plans vary wildly across providers, but we're going to sort through the big ones and hopefully point you in the right direction.

3

It looks like things are about to speed up for our friends in the North—on Rogers at least. The Canadian carrier announced today that it has flipped the switch on LTE-Advanced in several markets throughout the country. Perhaps even better, Rogers is doing all of this on the 700 MHz spectrum, which should allow for greater penetration inside of buildings.

A 32-bit Nexus in a 64-bit world: Why Google's new phone isn't already obsolete

100
Nexus

A 32-bit phone released in the 64-bit age rouses some questions — let's answer them

New Nexus time, baby! It's the time of the year when hardcore fans of Google's version of Android get excited. We see new hardware, new OS versions with sweet features, and we start to think about how we're going to fund our new purchases and the things we're going to do with them. It's #420ROOTIT all day for some, enjoying "pure" Android as-is for others.

With every launch of new Nexus hardware comes a little controversy, though. This year it's mostly the size — the Nexus 6 is a big beast of a phone — and the price — the Nexus 6 is priced like a big beast of a phone. (Or like every other phone. Just unlike previous Nexus phones is all.) Division exists on both counts, but in the end the people who really want the new Nexus will buy one in spite of, or because of, both issues.

But there's one not-so-little thing that has more than a few scratching their heads and a little worried. Lollipop is built for 64-bit processors, and the Nexus 9 tablet is a 64-bit device. But the Nexus 6 uses a 32-bit processor. Does that mean it's obsolete before it even gets released?

Let's rap.

LG G Watch R review

65
Moto 360

LG's second Android watch is a step forward, but not a game-changer

Smartwatches have been *a thing* for quite some time now. Nevertheless, it's a product category still struggling to find its feet, not to mention a compelling reason for normal people — those who live outside the tech bubble — to buy in. In the case of Android Wear, the software's still pretty basic, and the early hardware has been much closer to a smartphone on your wrist than a true evolution of this centuries-old device category.

There have, however, been a couple of notable exceptions. The first was Motorola's Moto 360, a futuristic watch that scooped up its share of praise before it'd even landed on store shelves. The second is the LG G Watch R, a device which tackles the smartwatch problem from a slight different angle.

As Motorola prepared to ship a smartwatch that could easily pass as a prop in a sci-fi movie, LG's first round wearable drew inspiration from the watches of the here and now, with a chunkier, more industrial look. Beyond the aesthetics, the G Watch R promised to address one of its predecessor's major functional pain points with a new, brighter plastic OLED display.

So now that we finally have the LG G Watch R in our hands, how does it shape up? Is this the Android wearable we've been waiting for, or just another imperfect smartwatch? Read on to find out, in the Android Central review.
