Skype Video for the HTC Thunderbolt leaks out

21

Although the HTC Thunderbolt was supposed to of have launched with it -- it didn't. And although HTC and Verizon tried to hide the fact it ever existed -- it didn't work. Skype Video has now leaked out for all Verizon HTC Thunderbolt users. No telling how long it will work for once Skype and Verizon catch on, or if they'll even care enough to bother shutting it down but we do know it will only work on the Thunderbolt so, don't bother trying it on anything else at this point.

Phil took it for a ride over 3G and Wifi. It works over the former and works pretty well over the later, but doesn't seem to do much for the person you're talking to. (Hi, Jerry!) Remember that this is leaked and unofficial software, so consider yourselves warned. Download links are at the source link, if you're the brave type. [Droid-Life] Thanks, 0mie!

Rooted device now trying CM7, Resetting webtop settings [from the forums]

0

Here we are again, Monday. While I dislike Mondays, they're always better when we start off on good note and today appears to have gone that way. The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer got root, and the Wifi-only Galaxy Tab is now officially available from Samsung. That's a good start, I think. The forums were busy over the weekend as well, jump on in there and join in on some of the conversation.

Wifi-only Galaxy Tab officially available from Samsung

14

Samsung has made the Wifi-only version of the original Galaxy Tab officially available today.  If you weren't lucky enough to get yours a few days early, you can now jump online and order one, at the reasonable cost of $349.99.  Samsung lists six "official"  retailers that are selling the tab, and interestingly enough Frys and Amazon are both already sold out.  Whether this is because of demand, or supply issues is unknown, but it's worth mentioning.

Also worth mentioning is the fact that the Tab is still a Froyo tablet.  I hope there are plans for an official update, but with the changes Google has made that's anyone's guess.  There is an unofficial update in the works, and I'm pretty certain that if Google does release tablet-centric source code we'll see some great implementation of it on the Tab, but it is what it is.  We recently asked readers if they would choose the Wifi Tab or the Barnes & Noble Nook Color, and the Nook was the more popular device with readers who had plans to purchase one or the other.  I think both would be a fine choice, but I already have a Nook Color so I think I'll pass on this one and wait to see what Toshiba has for us.  But if you're in the market for a very nice, low priced Android tablet, the Wifi Tab is certainly worth looking at. Google I/O ticket listed on eBay reaches $3,000

10

This isn't the first time we've seen Google I/O tickets go up for sale on eBay -- previously they were being sold for what we thought at the time was an alarmingly high price. But, this one -- this one, takes the cake, and some most might say totally overcharges you for it. To their credit though, they are offering to send you any goodies they may get ahead of Google I/O, whatever that means. That makes up for it, kind of. OK, not really. Although the seller says they're unable to attend, this just seems like a total cash grab to us, and is just plain wrong. [Android Central Forums]

Going to Google I/O? Let us know in the forums,
and maybe you can meet Phil and Jerry!

Android Quick App: simplePlay

6

There's a definite lack of Windows Phone-themed music players in the Android Market -- can't imagine why -- but simplePlay hopes to remedy that.

SimplePlay is actually a dual music/podcast player that boasts a clean UI, innovative navigation system, and some slick, eye-catching effects. Setup is simple, with the app asking you to locate your music and podcast folder on its first boot up. From there, you're given the option to download album art, and after that you're off to the races. Let's take a closer look after the break.

Asus Eee Pad Transformer gets rooted

19

We know -- it's pretty much inevitable these days when it comes to Android devices. They're going to get rooted, most before they even hit mass consumption. The Asus Eee Pad Transformer is no different and as such, we now have root courtesy of Paul O'Brien and BumbleDroid. That said, the full details on how-to have yet to show up but considering the device still hasn't shipped to the masses, we've got some time. Does knowing it can be easily rooted impact your buying choice? If so, let us know in the comments. [via @paulobrien]

Droid Incredible 2 accessory leak: CommandOne Bluetooth headset

12

In keeping up with all their previous Droid branding we're now seeing more Droid branded items come to market -- although, this time it's not a handset. It's actually a Bluetooth headset dubbed the Droid CommandOne. OK, so it's a Droid-branded Motorola Command One, which, is an awesome headet but that also raises the question of how many other accessories is Verizon planning on pushing out carrying the Droid branding. No pricing or launch date details are to be had here but we're thinking the standard "coming soon" should cover it.
