Sprint stores open at 8 a.m. Tuesday for the Epic 4G launch

15

Our friendly neighborhood Sprint rep (erm, or mass e-mail) reminds us that most Sprint stores will open at 8 a.m. local time on Tuesday for the launch of the Epic 4G, the third in the Samsung Galaxy S line to be released in the United States. (Click here to find info for your local store.) And suffice it to say that we're not the only ones excited for the Epic. Check out what your friends and neighbors are saying in our Epic 4G forums.

Android Game review: Dead End

20

There's two things that I love -- killing zombies, and being happily unproductiveDead End from Infectious Entertainment lets me do both, and does it damn well.  It's a top-down shooter, where you're stuck in a graveyard, facing wave after wave of bloodthirsty zombies.  Here's what Infectious Entertainment says about it:

Zombies have killed your family, eaten your neighbors and destroyed your
city. Blinded by rage and seeking revenge, you go to the one place you know you’ll be able to find the undead……the graveyard. Armed with only a pistol and several grenades, you quickly get yourself lost. Now you must fight your way out of the graveyard or risk meeting the same fate as everyone else.

Fit's pretty well I think.  There's a free and a paid version, with the full version offering more levels, upgraded weapons, achievements and awards, endless mode and even more types of zombies.  We have a link for trial version after the break, as well a a video where you can see just how cool this one is.  Thanks for the heads up Dan!

From the Forums: Get ready for Froyo on your Droid Incredible

19

Finally, after (far too) much waiting, the Droid Incredible faithful are getting Android 2.2 ("Froyo"). Verizon announced last week that the rollout was starting (slowly) and we expect it to hit a ton of phones this coming week. So, while you wait, why not head over to the DInc section of the Android Central Forums to keep up with all the latest going-ons?

Samsung Galaxy Tab to hit South Korea in early September

1

Samsung hasn't even had a chance to show off its upcoming Android 2.2-powered Galaxy Tab yet and already it is being leaked that South Korea's own SK Telecom will be launching the device come early September. No details on exact date, price, or possible contract were given for the launch. We will all just have to wait on Samsung's September 2 event in Berlin for more info. New Google Voice with widget support surfaces

30

A few days ago we saw the G2 testing ROM leak, which brought to light a rather interesting new find, widget support in an updated version of Google Voice. Well, many of us were looking for a link, sadly it didn't appear to be just that easy, but that has all changed. Links seem to be flooding the web of locations to download this updated Google Voice onto your device today. If you want to test out the new version, you can download it directly right here. Reports are that it is working great with the exception of the phone dialer button on Sense ROMs, due to the difference in integration, and this coming from a leak, not being an official update. Be sure to check it out, and jump in the forums and let us know what you think! Thanks to 0mie and everyone else who sent this in.

Samsung Mobile ships 1 million Galaxy S devices in the U.S

31

The Samsung Galaxy S -- a device line that many Android fans have grown to love. Samsung has announced today that it has shipped more than 1 million of the Android 2.1-powered Galaxy S phones in the United States. It sounds like that's devices shipped, and not necessarily devices sold to consumers. But there's no denying the line's popularity, with the AT&T and T-Mobile versions already in stores The Sprint Epic 4G launches on Tuesday, followed by the Verizon and US Cellular versions in later fall, so it might not be long until we see a couple more million of these devices being shipped. Check the full press release after the jump.

Sapphire custom ROM running on Droid X

45

No, that wasn't a typo -- the Droid X, despite the manufacturer's best efforts, has been spied running a custom ROM, namely the Sapphire AOSP 2.2 ROM (see the Sapphire team's post here in the forums).  We love seeing the various hacking and independent development projects on all Android phones, but this one is a bit extra special since the Droid X was supposedly the unhackable phone.  Next I imagine we'll see dogs and cats living together and all sorts of madness!

Check out the video after the break of the big bad X booting up to AOSP glory.  [via @MennoMobile]

Want an Epic hands on a few days early? Check your local Best Buy

39

They isn't the real deal, and they surely aren't activated, but if you have a hankering to get your mitts on an Epic 4G to see what all the fuss is about, try hitting your local Best Buy.  Thats where these lovely dummy units were spotted, just hanging out on their leash for anyone to fondle.  Our roving ninja Keith, (an Epic junkie if there ever was) says the dummy units feel pretty close to the real deal, minus the area around the space key, so you'd have a pretty good idea what the next two years year will feel like as you talk, text and play those 3D games.

If you're out and about, take a look and see if your local Best Buy has the Epic on display, and let us know in the comments!  Look after the jump to see another pic, with all of Best Buy's pricing information.
