Panasonic's Lumix CM1 stuffs a giant 1-inch sensor into an Android smartphone

Panasonic did not fare well in the consumer smartphone segment with its Eluga line of devices, and now the Japanese manufacturer is trying something different with its latest offering, the Lumix CM1. Dubbed a "connected camera", the Lumix CM1 is an Android smartphone targeted at imaging enthusiasts and sports a protruding sensor similar to that of Samsung's camera-centric devices like the Galaxy K Zoom.

Android One launches in India, expands to other nations this year

Google announced the launch of the Android One platform in India today, with the first set of low-cost devices now available for purchase in the country. While India is the first country where users get to experience Android One, Google has announced that the program will be making its way to Indonesia, the Philippines and South Asia (Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka) by the end of the year, with more countries set to follow in 2015.

Along with an international expansion, Google is adding more manufacturers to the fray, which sees the likes of Acer, Alcatel Onetouch, ASUS, HTC, Intex, Lava, Lenovo, Panasonic and Xolo launching Android One smartphones in the near future. Google has also partnered with Qualcomm, highlighting the possibility of a Snapdragon-enabled Android One handset, which may even be the LTE-enabled Snapdragon 210, seeing as how Qualcomm is targeting the $100 segment with its latest SoC.

Motorola has just announced the company will be allowing consumers in the UK to purchase its latest products directly through the online portal. Checking out the latest products on the website will be accompanied by means to actually checkout and have said items delivered. LG has today announced the G3 Stylus, a new 3G-only smartphone with support for interactive pens, will be rolling out globally. The device itself was unveiled earlier this month at IFA in Berlin, boasting a massive display and stylus pen but available at more affordable price point. The company states the G3 Stylus will debut in Brazil later this week, followed by Latin America and Asia.

The initiative sees Google collaborating with Indian vendors Micromax, Karbonn Mobiles and Spice in providing an entry-level smartphone that offers a near-stock Android experience and a turnkey hardware solution. The tagline for Android One in India is "Apni Kismat Apne Haath", which translates to "Your fate in your hands."

Pre-orders start Tuesday for Moto X, Moto Hint, Turbo Charger

Motorola today announced that the Moto X, Moto Hint and the Turbo Charger for quick charging will go up for preorder this Tuesday, Sept. 16.

You'll be able to pre-order either the AT&T version of the Moto X, starting at $99 on contract, or the Moto X Pure Edition, a version of the device without any carrier-installed software. The Pure Edition will be available for $499. The "Pure Edition" also comes with an unlockable bootloader.
