Big Android BBQ 5: three days of food, fun, and Lollipop

This is a big-boy pit for bit-boy cue.

The Big Android BBQ is something of a unique Android event most years in that it's usually a few weeks before the next version of Android is released. This means that while project teams for things like CyanogenMod can still discuss a good many things, most are still waiting on the new version of Android in order to announce when and what features will be coming to their products and their users.

This year wasn't like that.

Weekly poll results, and the return to normalcy

Google Plus poll results

The results are in — polls will remain on the homepage

We tried a little experiment last week with our weekly poll. Google did a really nice job with the way they handled the implementation of embedding a poll into a post and we had to give it a spin. It looks good, and more importantly, is easy to set up. A week later, I've looked at the results, read all the comments and email, thought about the numbers and have decided to keep the polls right here on the AC homepage.

From the Editor's desk

Phil is away on a much-needed break from being the Editor-in-Chief of the biggest and baddest Android site in the universe, and I get to sit in his chair for a day or two. I'm trying not to click all the things, or replace all the pictures with cat gifs, and in the meantime I wanted to share a few thoughts I've had over the week.

It's been a pretty big (pun intended) week in the world of Android, with the Galaxy Note 4 becoming officially official, and the avalanche of Nexus and Lollipop we got in the middle of it all. In fact, a new version of the OS and the release of something new from Samsung are a couple of the biggest things that can happen in the Android world, period.

In pictures: Galaxy Note 4 versus Note 3

Galaxy Note 4 vs Note 3

There are huge changes in the physical design and material choices between the Galaxy Note 4 and its predecessor the Note 3. Not only did Samsung make the big step towards a premium feel with a metal chassis, it also toned back the fake leather back to remove stitching and refined the overall look to feel more cohesive. No matter the color choice, the Note 4 is undeniably a better looking device.

The best way to show off the differences are some nice side-by-side pictures of the Note 4 and Note 3, and of course we have a nice grouping of them to show off. Read along and see the fine differences in designs between the Galaxy Note 4 and Note 3.
