HTC releases source code for Desire Z, T-Mobile G2, DInc update

8

We've got a trifecta this morning in the source code stakes, with HTC releasing code for the Desire Z, T-Mobile G2 and a maintenance release for the Droid Incredible. As always, certain proprietary code may not be released, and unless you rip apart and compile ROMs, this doesn't really mean much to you. But for everybody else, get to downloading! Motorola is looking for testers for Android 2.1 on the Backflip

Last week we saw Motorola rolling out Android 2.1 to some of the selected testers, and now it's the Backflip's turn Motorola has sent out e-mails asking for willing testers to contact them, and they are looking for a team of 1,000 folks to help them with the testing. Hopefully this testing push that we are seeing means that the official update is just around the corner, and there will be Android 2.1 for all Motorola Backflip owners! Text of the e-mail is after the break. Thanks, ChyA!

Archos 43 internet tablet now shipping

17

If you're a fan of the Archos 43 internet tablet and have already placed your preorder, you'll be pleased to know that shipments have started. We went hands on with a number of upcoming Archos devices back at IFA 2010, and the Archos 43 was one of them. The Android 2.2, 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor packing internet tablet might not be the device for you but many folks have been waiting for them to ship despite the fact it has no Android Market access. Any one out there already get theirs? Thanks, Mike!

Samsung Mesmerize review [U.S. Cellular]

18

US Cellular is certainly carving out a name for themselves in the Android world, and the release of the Samsung Mesmerize brings one of the best Android handsets currently on the market to their network.  It's a Galaxy S phone, and like its cousins on the big four networks, it's a powerhouse with an incredible Super AMOLED screen.  Hit the break to see my impressions of the Mesmerize, available at US Cellular for $199.99 on a two-year agreement.

We've already crawled all over the U.S. Galaxy S phones with the Verizon Fascinate, T-Mobile Vibrant, AT&T Captivate and Sprint Epic 4G. What does US Cellular bring to the tablet? Let's find out, after the break.

VZ Navigator for Droid 2 Global is here, now we just need the phone

10

Think back, and this is pretty much how things went for the original Droid 2, right? Leak after leak after leak, and finally Verizon announced the phone about 48 hours before it was released. So it's with little surprise that VZ Navigator for the Droid 2 Global appears in the Android Market. Leak after leak after leak, folks. Place your bets on when the phone finally appears. Droid 2 Global confirmed in two colors; comparison sheet revealed

9

Just in case there was still any doubt about the Droid 2 Global coming in two different colors, the latest details to leak out of Verizon by way of comparison sheet, totally confirms that information now. The Droid 2 Global will come in dark sapphire and winter white. The color options shouldn't throw anyone off though, in fact you've seen them before on the Droid 2 and Motorola Cliq. The comparison sheet does cover some of the other details, such as some of the exclusive features that only the Droid 2 Global will have in addition to the outlining of the specs.

All in all, a nice comparison sheet for those of you on the fence about which device to choose. I guess the biggest choice here, really, will be down to what color you'll be getting if the Droid 2 Global is already on your "Do Want!" list. [via Droid Life]

Viewsonic unveils 7-, 10-inch tablets

15

Viewsonic, a company that has been producing displays for more than 20 years, has announced that it, too, will be taking part in the Android tablet market.

The Viewpad 7 (see our hands-on), which will run Android 2.2, features 512MB of onboard memory and up to 32GB expansion via a MicroSD card and will be accompanied by the Viewpad 10.

One very interesting fact about the Viewpad 10 is that it will run Android 1.6 (boo), but also feature the option to dual boot it with Windows 7 (yay), and will be powered by a 1.6GHz processor and contain 1GB of on board memory. The 7-inch version is expected to launch by the end of the year for $479, while the 10-inch version is expected in Q1 of 2011 for $629.  [Viewsonic]

Droid 2 sees $50 price drop, Droid 2 Global to fill the $200 spot?

6

The Droid 2 Global edition (works on Verizon here in the States, but can work on GSM carriers for overseas travels) has popped up from time to time, but it might be coming sooner than we thought. Verizon has just dropped the price of the stock Droid 2 by $50, which could be a move to clear out their inventory in preparation of the Global's arrival or Big Red could be planning on offering both phones simultaneously. Either way, this move is a big hint that we could see the Droid 2 Global sometime soon, so any international travelers interested in the Droid 2 might want to hold off for a bit. [Verizon via Engadget]

Update: The Droid Incredible is also getting a $50 discount. It is listed as simply being on sale, though, so don't get too excited for an Incredible HD just yet.
