Droid Incredible maintenance update starting to trickle in

9

Looks like the Droid Incredible update -- the one that along with a host of bugfixes puts Verizon's VCAST app store thingy on your phone (hurray?) -- is finally pushing out. Loyal reader Kenneth sends word (and the above screen shot). So if you're going to the stock route, go grab it. And if anyone wants to snag us the manual download location (here's how), that'd be great, too! More in the Droid Incredible forums

Fuze Meeting for Android Tablets -- the virtual conference room

0

Fuze Box has announced its Fuze Meeting software, designed for tablets, that brings virtual conferencing to Android.  Fuze Meeting already exists for Android phones, as well as Apple and BlackBerry devices and the desktop, but the latest version has been optimized for use on the Galaxy Tab's 1024x600 screen.

Fuze Meeting is not just a chat application.  It's an invitation-only virtual meeting, that allows users of the software to participate real time -- including sharing content from the Tablet itself.  Desktop hosts can also share their workspace with attendees, and support for hosting and desktop sharing from Tablet devices is said to be coming next year.  To top it all off, VOIP software is included on the Android application so CDMA phones can share data and voice with attendees.  Fuze Meeting is a free application, but hosting meetings requires a subscription.  You can read about pricing information here.

It's refreshing to see Tab specific content and applications geared to the business user so quickly, and if Fuze Meeting performs as well as expected, it's something to check out.  You can download Fuze Meeting for Android (including the tablet version) from Fuze (redirects to the Android Market based on your device), and we have the full press release after the break.

Verizon Galaxy Tab available today; AT&T's version coming Nov. 21 for $649?

8

The second of the U.S. versions of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7-inch Android tablet is now available. Verizon's variant goes for $599 -- that's sans contract or rebate. A data plan will run you $20 a month for 1 of the ol' gee-bees.

Meanwhile, Engadget got a leaked screen shot that shows AT&T's version coming Nov. 21 for $649, with data plans at $14.99 for 250MB and $25 a month for 2GB of data. Will that be at all competitive with the iPad? Eh, we'll see.

T-Mobile's version of the Galaxy Tab already is available, and Sprint's will be here Nov. 14 for $399 on contract.

Install Froyo on your iPhone 2G or 3G without a computer, using Bootlace

30

Does iOS fragmentation have your iPhone 3G sluggish and buggy?  Drop Froyo on it and give it some new life!  The new Bootlace app in Cydia (yes, like most things fun and unauthorized, you'll need to jailbreak) for the original iPhone and the 3G will get Froyo running without the use of a computer.  Froyo for the iPhone has had the keys remapped so that the volume rocker, power button, and home button on the Apple hardware work for Android's four buttons, but there's no Google apps (Gmail, GTalk, Market, etc) available just yet.

If only you could download something to get rid of that silly proprietary connector. [Redmond Pie via EngadgetThanks Derek!

CyanogenMod 6 on the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G

5

You won't find it for download anywhere, it's being called "very broken" and don't dare ask for an ETA, but here's a quick peek at CyanogenMod 6 on the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G.  Less than 24 hours after getting properly rooted and a custom recovery made, this sure looks pretty.  Told you the ROMs would come soon.  [@kmobs]

Doodle Jump updated, now on sale until November 17th!

6

Aside from Angry Birds, I can only think of one other game that is as much fun (see: addictive) and that game is Doodle Jump. If you've been waiting for Doodle Jump to go on sale before you took the plunge in purchasing it, you'll be pleased to know that from now until November 17th it's available for only $.99 cents.

In addition to the sale, a total of four new themes (Jungle, Space, Night and Christmas) have been added. Most importantly, bug fixes to improve performance and correct a missing platforms bug have also been addressed. You'll find the download link after the break. Thanks Cameron!

Tango Video Calls updated with fixes for EVO and Samsung devices

9

If you're a fan of video calling and have yet to try out Tango, now is a pretty good time to give it a look. The cross-platform video calling app was just updated in the Android Market. The two key items in the change log are:

  • Support for front facing cameras on Samsung devices
  • Fixed an issue that was causing some HTC EVOs to reboot when launching Tango

Tango will work over 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi and has a pretty simple set up process. If you've given Tango a spin, let us know in the comments or in the Android Central forums. Download link after the break. Thanks, Dave!

YouTube Remote wants to control your leanback experience

9

If you like to spend your days perusing YouTube videos then the latest Google offering, YouTube Remote might be of interest. As described on the YouTube Blog:

YouTube Remote creates a virtual connection between your phone and YouTube Leanback. To ‘pair’ your phone with your Leanback screen, simply sign into YouTube Remote on your Android phone, and to YouTube Leanback on your Google TV or computer with the same YouTube account.

Having tested YouTube Remote out today for the first time, I have to say it is pretty cool, although I'm struggling to find many use cases for it. If I have a Google TV then I have a keyboard to go with it. If I'm near my PC then I also have a keyboard right there. Just seems more of a novelty application or one that I would use after coming home from the bar. [YouTube Blog]

Clockwork recovery for myTouch 4G now in Rom Manager

0

That didn't take long -- Clockwork recovery has been ported over to the myTouch 4G, and is available right from Rom Manager.  After we saw it ported to the G2, we knew the myTouch 4G would soon follow, and kmobs has done the deed.  There are several ways to get it and flash it, but it's hard to beat Rom Manager.  Be sure you're rooted, install Rom Manager from the Market and fire it up.  ROMs and assorted hacks soon to follow I'm sure.  The Market links for Rom Manager are after the break.  [@kmobs, @clockworkmod] Thanks timbo1083!
