Touchtype launches SwiftKey for tablets

16

The much acclaimed SwiftKey by Touchtype is coming to Android tablets, the company announced. It's sporting a completely overhauled interface specifically designed for use on tablets, and we must say it looks pretty darn cool. The keyboard is broken up into three sections, with letters on the left, numbers in the middle, and letters on the right. Touchtype says it's designed specifically for typing "with your thumbs". Hit the source link for the full presser, and a video preview of SwiftKey for tablets in action after the break! [SwiftKey]

In-app purchasing comes to Android apps

9

We heard a lot of news at today's event at Google, and one thing many have been waiting for is in-app purchases.  These will allow for things like buying songs, upgrading to premium versions of apps, add extra levels or content, and provide a way to use virtual currency.

Disney Mobile showed off several things today, including in-app purchasing to buy a song for their upcoming Tap Tap Revenge for Android application, and it looks to be integrated really well and should provide a seamless way for end users to enhance their applications, as well as provide developers with a way to generate more income.  We all know that happy, well fed developers make for a robust Marketplace and happy users, so we can't wait to see it!

Android Market webstore now online!

74

As we've been tuned into the Google live event, something that many folks have been waiting a long time for has now become reality. Yes, the Android Market is now online for purchases straight from you desktop web browser.  You can check out the Android Market webstore now although it does not seem fully enabled as of yet as most folks cannot login.  Some of the features added to the online webstore include an app and device manager that allows you to install apps direct from the market to your device as well as improved methods of filtering items so that it is ultimately easier to find apps of interest. In addition to those inclusions, Google has also made sure to include as much social networking integration as possible. [Android Market Webstore]

Disney bringing Tap Tap Revenge, other games to Android

9

Disney has announced that they are bringing a trio of apps to Android devices. Tap Tap Revenge is the clear highlight, but Jelly Car and Disney Radio shouldn't be overlooked either. Disney said that they had been awaiting in-app purchases to port Tap Tap Revenge over and the games will be available later this spring once in-app purchases launch for the Android Market. They also mentioned that Tap Tap Revenge would run on any Android device with 2.1 Eclair or higher. [Android Central Liveblog]

Android Quick App: Honeycomb wall live wallpaper

19

As we get set for the Honeycomb event today we figured we'd share this awesome new live wallpaper with you all since, this event is the reason it was created. Honeycomb wall is a new live wallpaper that is now available for download in the Android Market which adds an embedded calendar and clock to your home screen as well as plenty of honeycomb bees that fly around. If you opt for the donation version you'll get some added features:

  • Buzzing, touchable bees
  • Battery level indicator
  • Set own image background
  • On device editor to change bees location, size, etc

All in all it's pretty awesome to say the least. The donation version does cost $.99 cents in the Android Market but that's a rather small price to be paying for something this cool. Video and download can be found after the break. [Android Central forums]

Verizon, on Twitter, says we may see Thunderbolt 'sooner than we expected'

38

Verizon this morning on Twitter offered a little teaser as to when we might actually see the HTC Thunderbolt (see our hands-on) go on sale. No exact date, but we did get:

Many have waited for the Verizon #iPhone. Some looking for the #4G #LTE HTC #Thunderbolt. May be sooner than we expected!

That mean we'll see it before the expected Feb. 14 launch at Best Buy? Guess we'll find out in the coming days. [@verizonwireless] Thanks, Droid Hungry!

Dell Streak 7 on sale now at T-Mobile

8

It may not be running Honeycomb, but the Dell Streak 7 is available for purchase right now. Get it from T-Mobile for $200 (after a $50 mail in rebate) on two-year contract or contract-free straight from Dell for $450. All that cash will net you Android 2.2 Froyo running on a Tegra 2 behind a 7-inch 800x480 screen. Choose wisely. [Dell, T-Mobile]

Honeycomb on Nook Color updated with major fixes

19

If you were holding off on the Honeycomb port for Nook Color because some pretty major features like sound and SD card storage weren't working, then it might be time to start downloading.  The SD card image (from developer deeper-blue) has been updated after only a day to take care of both of those issues.

At this point, the most glaring omission is root access, but considering we've gone from Google releasing their Honeycomb SDK preview to having a ROM that's pretty much ready for daily use in less than a week is quite a testament to this mysterious developer from Chicago.

Head on over to our How-To thread in the forums for the download and all the details--then follow along at home on our live blog of Google's "introduction" to Honeycomb today.  [xda-developers]

LG hypes Optimus 3D (or something else): Something bigger is coming on your way

8

LG has confirmed that we'll see the Optimus 3D at Mobile World Congress in just a couple short weeks (we'll be there, by the way), and now they're ramping up the hype with a teaser video.

"Something bigger is coming on your way" may be prepositionally challenged, but there's no shortage of bombast. Clearly LG has quite a few eggs in whatever basket it's bringing to Barcelona. Check it out after the break. [via @LGmobileMWC]
