OnePlus One

Slim, light, packed with specs and priced to move

The folks at OnePlus have been building up hype around their first smartphone launch, and today the OnePlus One finally became official. Announced at an event in China, the Magnesium constructed One weighs just 162g, has a recessed bezel round the edges, what it says are "beautiful contours" and a ton of beefy hardware inside.

The price was also built up ahead of launch and OnePlus hasn't disappointed on this front. The 16GB version will be available unlocked and SIM-free for just $299 while the 64GB is an extremely impressive $349. In Europe those prices translate to £229/£269 and €269/€299 which on the face of it alone is extremely good value for the hardware alone. It's set to become available sometime in Q2.

We've been teased over the past few weeks as to what makes the OnePlus One tick, but in case you need a reminder, here's what we're looking at:

AT&T posts $17.9 billion in revenue, adds 625,000 postpaid customers in Q1

49
AT&T

AT&T reported its first quarter 2014 results, showing impressive growth in revenues, handset sales and customer acquisition for the quarter. While AT&T operates businesses outside of its wireless division, we're going to focus on this portion. For the quarter, AT&T posted $17.9 billion in revenue including handset sales, up 7 percent year-over-year, leading to $5.1 billion in operating income, up 8.1 percent.

On the customer side, AT&T added 625,000 postpaid customers, its largest first quarter gain in five years. It also added 693,000 "connected devices," but saw prepaid customers dip overall in the quarter mostly due to the loss of over 200,000 reseller subscribers. Of those additions, 311,000 were for postpaid smartphones, while 313,000 were tablets.

AT&T sold 5.8 million smartphones in total for the quarter, making up 92 percent of all postpaid phone sales — which first quarter record. This leads to 78 percent of AT&T's postpaid customers now using smartphones, up from 74 percent this time last year. In terms of connectivity, 57 percent of AT&T's postpaid smartphone subscribers have an LTE-capable device.

The Google+ Photo Sphere community is a work of art

14
Surround shot

Get immersed in Photo Spheres

We love Photo Spheres. They're fairly easy to take, and with the right subject and a little careful planning they can be spectacular. And now that even more phones can take them — thanks to OEM solutions and the Google Camera app — there are even more people taking and sharing them.

A great place to check them all out is the Google + Photo Sphere community. You'll find pictures from amateur and pro photographers, and spend hours looking at the images. As a bonus, there's a great Tips & Tricks section to get you on the way to being a contributor.

So grab your new phone, or your old phone with a new app, and hit the Photo Sphere community up. If you like to take pictures, we promise you'll be glad you did.
