Android Wear source code uploaded to AOSP

6

In a message posted on the Android Building Google Group, Bill Yi has announced that GPL projects for the software running on both the Samsung Gear Live and the LG G Watch have been posted to the appropriate places in the Android source tree. Interested developers can find them under the tag android-4.4w_r1, and we're told that there are very few changes since the KitKat 2.2 maintenance release. As of now, we don't see any specific repos for the Gear Live or the G Watch, but some very important portions (such as /system/core) are available.

Control over how sensitive files are shared could be big for Google's place in a BYOD world

Earlier we got a little more information about the new enterprise features coming with Android L, courtesy of Samsung's contribution of portions of Knox. As consumers, it's not really the sort of thing we think about, at least not very often. But one of the bullet points really stood out to me, and I think it could be just the thing Google needs to build out their own piece of enterprise market share — managed intents.

Read on to see why I think this is Google's foot in the door of the enterprise.

Facebook's new save feature lets you get to that quiz later

9

Facebook will soon let you save your favorite things from Facebook. Not a local save, mind you, more of a Pocket for Facebook, and only in Facebook. With the save feature a tap or two will let you save a link, place, or bit of linked media (movie, TV show, or music) for later reference. Those hilarious (or incriminating) status updates and photos? You still can't save those — you'll still have to resort to a screenshot for that.

Google gives a few details on the enterprise management tools coming in Android L

23
Managed apps in the launcher

One of the less sexy but more important announcements at Google I/O last month was that Google is adopting part of Samsung's enterprise (as in corporate) security system into the L release of Android. The short version is that it'll be easier than ever to have your work data on your phone alongside your personal data, but the two will be secure and completely sandboxed. (You can get an early look at it now in the L Developer Preview, if you're so inclined.)

Today, Google and Samsung have dropped a little more info on exactly what's going on.

HTC One E8 versus M8: What's the difference?

41
HTC One E8 vs M8

The HTC One E8 is upon us, and we've got our hands on the lighter, polycarbonate version of HTC's flagship targeted at Russia, India and parts of Asia. As we've pointed out in our coverage so far, the E8 is essentially the internals of the HTC One M8 in a plastic case with a different camera. But beyond that there are actually quite a few smaller differences to get to grips with. For instance, only one has an IR blaster, and there are some LED flash differences too.

Check the table below for the full E8 vs M8 breakdown.
