LG officially outs the Genesis -- three weeks after we did

Looks like we had that one nailed, eh? Some three weeks after we broke the news that the LG Genesis is coming to US Cellular (and then followed up with the complete specs list), LG's listed the phone on its official site. Still no word on when the Android 2.2 clamshell -- which at one point was headed to Verizon -- is coming to the regional carrier. But the fact that LG has US Cellular listed means it's definitely more likely than not.

Stay tuned for pricing and availability, folks.

T-Mobile's new 'Monthly4G' plans offer high-speed data without a contract

T-Mobile today announced its new “Monthly4G” plans, a new no-contract option for its 4G customers. There are two plans to choose from, both with unlimited voice, text, and web. The first, priced at $50/month, offers 100 MB at 4G speeds, the second offers 5 GB at $70/month. The plans are throttled, which means that once you hit your limit, you won't be paying more, but instead you'll find your speeds slowed for the remainder of the month. Interesting note: that 5 GB plan is $10 cheaper than T-Mobile's current two-year contracted unlimited plan, AND it offers 3 more GBs per month. Great to see that T-Mobile won't be nickel and diming people for every additional GB you use, though since most of us eat 5 GBs for breakfast, it'd be nice to see some higher caps.

T-Mobile also announced new unlimited family plans, ranging from $120/month for 200GB at full speed to $220/month for 10 GBs at full speed. Hit the source link for the full press releases.

Galaxy Tab 10.1 shows off keyboard dock, Transformer gets jealous

Youtube link for mobile viewing

I know we just told you about Logitech's new line of tablet accessories and Phil just made it known that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 should have been what Honeycomb launched on, so this next bit of news looks to enforce the latter and outdo the former.

On video we have a short clip of a Tab 10.1 docked into a Samsung-branded keyboard dock, which looks to be made specifically for the 10.1. Not much is shown in terms of functionality, but you can notice there's no trackpad and there is a 3.5mm headphone jack. Other than that, the video is a lot of comparing the Tab to the size of a laptop, walking around, and saying things in a language I don't understand.

I, for one, am excited about a first-party option in the keyboard dock department. What does this mean for the Asus Transformer, though? For now, it remains the undisputed king of tablets with docks. Perhaps a battle is brewing.

How's this sit with anyone else? Is this enough to set your sights on the Tab 10.1, especially over the Transformer? We're curious, so let us know.

Motorola Droid X project in the works -- is it Gingerbread?

Members of Motorola's Owner User Groups who have a Droid X are getting invitations to participate in a new and (cough) confidential project.  While the invitation doesn't come right out and say it, when you sign up you get a little more information about a May 2011 soak (a fancy term for beta testing), and everyone seems pretty sure it's going to be Gingerbread.  This would make sense, as we're under the impression that Gingerbread is ready to go, and we've been expecting it the past few Fridays

If this project follows along with the timeline of previous projects, expect some sort of OS update in about a week.  If we're lucky, expect it to be Gingerbread.

HTC Evo 3D to be $200 on contract at Radio Shack, $99 with trade in incentive

While the release date for the HTC Evo 3D is still up in the air, we know the pricing that Radio Shack will have thanks to a Radio Shack promo leaked to Good and Evo.  Off contract pricing is an affordable (comparably) $500, and with a new two-year agreement the Evo 3D will cost you $200 -- unless you're trading in your Evo 4G or Evo Shift 4G, which nets you an additional $100 off.  Yes, that means if you walk into a Radio Shack on the day it's released, and hand them your Evo or Shift, you can walk out with one of the years hottest new Androids for a measly $100 if you qualify.

Kind of makes it hard to say no, doesn't it?

HTC Merge to hit U.S. Cellular May 31

The HTC Merge will be available for U.S. Cellular customers on May 31, according to internal documents leaked in the Android Central forums.  The phone should cost $249.99 with a new agreement, and before the $100 mail in rebate.  We've been closely following the Merge since we first laid eyes and hands on it way back in October of last year, and it's a great phone that should have seen the light of day much sooner than it did.  Ask anyone using a G2 or an Evo Shift, they'll agree.

While U.S. Cellular's high-end Android line-up is slightly behind the curve when compared to the "big four", the Merge will join the Desire and Mesmerize to offer customers a few great choices.  No word if the Merge will be available on pre-paid plans, but since the Desire and Mesmerize aren't, we don't expect it.  So, what say you U.S.Cell subscribers?  Anyone plan on picking up one of these?  Sound off!

ROM Announcement: Reborn ROM for the LG Optimus S

Once again our resident LG Optimus S expert has cooked up some goodness for the little powerhouse from LG and Sprint.  Using parts of his previous work, and a mind-melding technique with a few other Optimus hackers that took weeks and many six packs to perfect, Nick7 brings you the Reborn ROM.

Built off the original VD sources, Reborn ROM brings great performance and a nice, new visual style that sets it apart from the rest of the crowd.  Think a little bit Hero, a little bit MyTouch 3G, and a whole lot of overclocked kernel and you have the right idea.

Ladies and gents, this is why hackers love Android.  We're just glad that they take the time to share with us all.  For more information, visit the Reborn ROM thread in the Android Central forums.

Thanks go out to Nick7 for his hard work!
