Ah, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. How we once loved you so much. The latest news regarding the Xperia X10 is that it'll be available on T-Mobile Germany in April. Yes, all the way out in April. That coincides with NTT DoCoMo's April launch of the Smartphone Xperia (same device, different name) so it seems like this device is taking Sony Ericsson's traditionally lengthy time to release (See: Xperia X1).

We played with the Xperia X10 at CES and felt it was a solid phone with an interesting experience. If it was available now, it could be a hit. If we're waiting until April, well, it gets a heck of a lot less exciting and a heck of a lot tougher to succeed considering HTC has a big wave of Android phones coming. We're almost at the point where we're going to ignore whatever Sony Ericsson does until they actually release a phone. Ah, Xperia X10. We wanted to love you so much.

It looks like what we once knew as the Samsung Galaxy Spica will actually be released as the Samsung Galaxy Portal in the UK. T-Mobile UK will be the lucky ones to carry this middling Android device and per usual in the UK, it's available for FREE with certain rate plans. The Galaxy Portal packs a 800 MHz processor which we're going to assume is like the Moment's, a 3.2 inch 320x480 capacitive touchscreen, and a 3.2 megapixel camera.

We played with the Samsung Galaxy Portal (Spica) some at CES but since we've heard about the Galaxy 2, the Spica has kind of gotten lost in the shuffle. Kind of similar to what happened with the original Galaxy. In fact, doesn't it feel like all Samsung Android phones disappear here in the States? Maybe Samsung should re-evaluate their US Android strategy because they're clearly trailing HTC and Motorola.

If for some reason you still think Apple and Google are all buddy-buddy when it comes to accepting your dollars, well, CEO Steve Jobs just put an end to that when addressing his employees at a town hall-style event later in the day. Speaking anonymously to Wired, a tipster says Jobs flat-out called Google's "Don't be evil" motto BS while going on the defensive.

On Google: We did not enter the search business, Jobs said. They entered the phone business. Make no mistake they want to kill the iPhone. We won’t let them, he says. Someone else asks something on a different topic, but there’s no getting Jobs off this rant. I want to go back to that other question first and say one more thing, he says. This don’t be evil mantra: “It’s bullshit.” Audience roars.

Some of that's likely just rallying the troops. But it starts to make you think that possibly Jobs does see Android in his rear-view mirror. [via The iPhone Blog]

It's long been believed that Google's Nexus One was named after a class of robots in Phil K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (enough so that Dick's family has accused Google of trademark violations). But astute AC reader Roger has come up with an alternative theory:

If you're just dying to get your hands on the Motorola Backflip (speaking of hands-ons, check out ours with the phone), tickets to China are running about $800 right now. 'Cause that's where you're going to have to go to pick up what's being billed as the ME600 on Motorola China's Web site. It's going for about $629 US and comes with a car charger and 8GB storage card.

The T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition is a refresh of the myTouch 3G that features a guitar-like finish, a serious case that mimics one you'd take to a gig, and it sees the (very welcome) addition of a 3.5mm headphone jack. Those of you (erm, us) who sprung some cash early to be able to use the unlocked Nexus One on AT&T -- and to do so only on EDGE -- might soon regret that purchase. Engadget has spied another phone going through the FCC that's just one digit off the current Nexus One, which usually means a variation on a device. What's more is that it sports the 3G bands used by AT&T in the United States (and Telus, Rogers and Bell in Canada). As for whether it's coming to any of those carriers or will even be available unlocked remains to be seen. But we've got our fingers crossed. [FCC via Engadget]

For those of you chomping at the bit to get your hands on the T-Mobile myTouch Slide (aka the Espresso), here's something to at least whet your appetite. While the picture you see is pretty obvious prototype/dev phone, it should give you a decent idea as to what's coming down the pike.

The horizontal-slider keyboard is a bit reminiscent of the HTC Touch Pro 2 set in italics. We're willing to bet the buttons -- on the keyboard as well as the front of the device -- are tweaked a little bit in the end product. And you'll notice that's an optical trackpad instead of
